  1. 'We deserved the goal at the end'published at 21:55 British Summer Time 5 October 2017

    Northern Ireland 1-3 Germany

Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill on Sky Sports: "You fear the worst at 2-0 down but 3-0 would have been harsh. We deserved the goal at the end. The early goal made it difficult, it knocked us back and took us a while to get going.

"We got up to the ball better in the second half. If that was because of the change of shape, then that is my fault. Through players like Toni Kroos and Mats Hummels, it is difficult to get a touch on the ball.

"You are not going to get too many chance against Germany. You want them to miss and then net the ones we get. Conor Washington will feel he should have scored, it would have given a nice finish to the game.

"This was a bonus game for us, it could have gone to 4-0 or 5-0 but we kept out goal difference in a healthy state. It could easily have been obliterated."

Nicholas Alexander: Magnificent performance from the Harry Kane team again.

Billy: If only the expectations weren't there. That would be a fantastic result.

Dr Malcolm Harvey: Glorious failure awaits on Sunday night lads. Of course we're going to Scotland it: we're Scotland!

Absolutely wonderful performance by Scotland tonight. The fight and spirit in the side is unbelievable. Thoroughly deserved and they got the reward for never giving up. Delighted for Gordon Strachan, the only man for the job.

    England 1-0 Slovenia

    Gary Flintoff
BBC Radio 5 live reporter at Wembley

It is all very subdued in the Wembley tunnel. The England players and coaching staff are all inside their vast dressing room but it does not sound like they are celebrating. Gareth Southgate has just emerged to start his post match interviews. He seems more pleased than ecstatic!

  5. 'It's a big deal'published at 21:52 British Summer Time 5 October 2017

    England 1-0 Slovenia

England goalkeeper Joe Hart speaking to ITV Sport: "The guys were brilliant today. We wore them down. It was difficult for the crowd but we appreciate them coming.

"We're really happy. The team have always got my back and I have theirs. The team have qualified for a World Cup and that's a big deal."

  7. 'It was a useless group!'published at 21:52 British Summer Time 5 October 2017

    England 1-0 Slovenia

    Ian Wright
Former Arsenal & England striker on ITV

It's an easy group, a useless group! It's really hard to watch. I'm looking forward to the World Cup of course, but am I looking forward to watching England?

No. Dele Alli had his best game for England by not playing tonight.

  8. 'A very tough night'published at 21:50 British Summer Time 5 October 2017

    Northern Ireland 1-3 Germany

Northern Ireland captain Steven Davis on Sky Sports: "A very tough night. The game plan went out of the window after the first couple of minutes. They created overloads all the time and are very clever at doing that.

"We set out to be compact and try to be compact but fell behind straight away to a top quality strike. We created opportunities going forward but it was a bigger test than we have faced.

"We had runners into good areas in the second half and put them under pressure in the defensive areas but they deserved the win.

"We will pick ourselves up but we will not get too down about it."

  9. A frustrating nightpublished at 21:49 British Summer Time 5 October 2017

    England 1-0 Slovenia

    Ian Dennis
    Speaking on Radio 5 live

Until Harry Kane's 94th minute winner the England supporters were more excited about paper planes thrown from the stands reaching the pitch than the actual game.

England struggled to create clear-cut opportunities.

England have qualified but as the players in the centre circle acknowledged a near empty Wembley stadium, the subdued atmosphere summed up a frustrating night.

  10. 'We had to be patient'published at 21:49 British Summer Time 5 October 2017

    England 1-0 Slovenia

England captain Harry Kane on ITV: "We have qualified, and that's all that matters. We had to be patient and in the last 10 minutes they were getting tired.

"It's no easy feat these days (to qualify for a World Cup.) We're all delighted. We have another game on Sunday and we need to keep doing what we're doing and working hard."
