  4. 'Evans' finishing will improve'published at 17:20 British Summer Time 6 August 2016

    FT: Oxford 1-1 Chesterfield

    Ched EvansImage source, Rex Features

Ched Evans scored Chesterfield's equaliser at Oxford in League One.

It was the Welshman's first professional appearance since April 2012 - he served half of a five-year jail sentence for raping a 19-year-old woman, a conviction which was quashed by the Court of Appeal earlier this year.

Chesterfield boss Danny Wilson: "I was happy with the debutants and I think all the players made positive contributions.

"Evans always makes sure he gets chances - he missed two before the goal that he'll score by mid-season."

Plymouth reached the League Two play-off final last season, but there's much work to be done if they're to hit similar heights this campaign - they suffered a 3-0 home defeat by Luton.

Grimsby beat Morecambe 2-0 on their return to the EFL after a six-year absence, while relegated Blackpool managed the same result against Exeter.

The best action in the fourth tier was at the Wham Stadium, where Sean McConville's injury-time goal earned hosts Accrington a 3-2 victory against Doncaster Rovers.

    Grimsby 2-0 Morecambe

Ben Davies strokes the ball home from 30 yards out, and Grimsby are surely heading for victory in their first game back in League Two against Morecambe.

It's not all good news for the Mariners though - Josh Gowling has been sent off with 19 minutes to play for fouling a Morecambe player when he was through on goal.

Elsewhere, Charlton, relegated from the Championship last season, are enduring a poor start to life in League One as they've gone 1-0 down at Bury to Neil Danns' penalty.
