    Portsmouth v Carlisle (15:00 BST)

Carlisle United fansImage source, Rex Features

Carlisle United supporters are a hardy old bunch, and while they've got used to long away journeys over the years, the fixture computer wasn't particularly kind on the opening day of the League Two season.

They are away at Portsmouth today, meaning they have a 700-mile round trip to see their team in action at Fratton Park.

The boot will be on the other foot next Saturday - the Cumbrians host Plymouth, who will have a 778-mile round trip. Swings and roundabouts.

The City Ground is filling up nicely for Nottingham Forest's game against Burton, by the looks of things.

Apart from the 20% they're not allowed to use, obviously.

Cheltenham v Leyton Orient, Grimsby v Morecambe (15:00 BST)

    Gary JohnsonImage source, Rex Features

Welcome back to the EFL, Cheltenham Town and Grimsby Town.

Both clubs were promoted from the National League last season, with Grimsby beating Forest Green at Wembley to secure their spot in League Two after a six-year absence.

Cheltenham were only out of the EFL for one season, and boss Gary Johnson will hope to continue the momentum from his side's title success in 2015-16.

However, first they must overcome the disappointment of missing out on a major trophy during pre-season (I'm talking about the Johnson Cup, of course).

    Northampton v Fleetwood (15:00 BST)

Kit problems have beset Northampton Town on their return to League One.

    Matt TaylorImage source, Getty Images

New signing Matt Taylor managed to get his hands on one when he was unveiled by the Cobblers earlier this week, but a delivery delay with the suppliers has left them without enough home kit to wear for today's opening game of 2016-17.

Instead, Rob Page's side will wear their away kit when they host Fleetwood.

Walsall v AFC Wimbledon (15:00 BST)

AFC Wimbledon didn't even exist 15 years ago. Today, they kick off in the third tier of English football for the first time in their short history.

Their fairy tale continued with May's League Two play-off final victory over Plymouth at Wembley, meaning they'll be going to places such as Bolton, Charlton and Sheffield United this season.

Walsall, who finished third in League One last term, are their opponents on the opening day.

With a new season upon us, it's likely you'll hear a few stock phrases from managers over the next few months.

"You need 90 points to win promotion out of the Championship."

"74 points will get us into the play-offs."

"We need to get to 50 points as soon as possible, because we know that will keep us up."

    How true are they?

We locked BBC Sport's Jay Freeman in a room and asked him to crunch the numbers for us. Click here to read his findings.
