North End boss Simon Grayson expects Garner to have a medical at Rangers this week.

The 28-year-old wasn't involved in Preston's 1-0 defeat by Derby on Tuesday.

  4. Half-time in League Onepublished at 20:39 British Summer Time 17 August 2016

As you were in League One at the break, with Bolton heading for a third-straight league win as they lead 2-0 at Bristol Rovers thanks to Josh Vela and Jay Spearing.

The meeting at Highbury between Fleetwood and Oxford remains goalless.

  5. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:36 British Summer Time 17 August 2016

Also half-time at Oakwell where Barnsley lead thanks to Marley Watkins' fourth-minute header.

The break also arrives at the Cardiff City Stadium where it's Shane Duffy OGs 2-0 Blackburn.

Not a 45 minutes to remember for the Rovers centre-back.

    Quote Message

Barnsley certainly deserve their lead. They have looked so professional and organised and every part of the team has functioned really well.

Half-time whistle blows at St James' Park and there's a few boos to accompany it as well from the home fans.

Rafael Benitez will be far from happy his side have failed to build on the early dominance.

Reading have matched everything Newcastle have done. I honestly think Newcastle are here for the taking, Reading can go on and win this.

Newcastle 1-1 Reading - McCleary pen (45 mins)

Up steps Garath McCleary with the spot kick for Jaap Stam's Reading.

The Jamaica international makes no mistake and sends Newcastle goalkeeper Matz Sels the wrong way.

  8. PENALTY TO READINGpublished at 20:28 British Summer Time 17 August 2016

    Newcastle 1-0 Reading

Silly clumsy challenge in the box right on the stroke of half-time by Newcastle defender Chancel Mbemba on John Swift.

Visitors Reading with a chance to level it before the break.

Unsurprisingly, Shane Duffy's two own goals for Blackburn at Cardiff have you talking on social media...

Tim Beuzeval: Sympathy for Duffy - I scored 2ogs in a game once and my team-mates stopped giving me the ball even when we were in the oppo's half!

Jeffery Mann: Does Shane Duffy get the match ball if he scores 3?

Craig Dobson: I really hope Owen Coyle has faith in Shane Duffy. I'd hate to see him subbed when he's on a hat-trick

Shane Duffy is being loudly cheered by the Cardiff fans every time he touches the ball. His incredible misfortune remains the difference maker in a contest that has been pretty even, aside from the two gift-wrapped own goals.

  11. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 20:22 British Summer Time 17 August 2016

    Newcastle 1-0 Reading

Two great chances for a Reading equaliser at St James' Park.

Dutch midfielder Roy Beerens strikes the crossbar first up with a shot from outside the area. The follow-up breaks to Danny Williams, but Garath McCleary is unable to direct it on target and under the bar as it's squared to him.

    Barnsley 1-0 QPR

Been a quiet half at Oakwell since Marley Watkins' early goal.

    Cardiff 2-0 Blackburn

It should've been 3-0 for the hosts, but not a third for Shane Duffy thankfully.

Peter Whittingham was put clean through the visiting defence with only the keeper to beat but somehow he screwed his shot wide.

  14. Bolton at the doublepublished at 20:17 British Summer Time 17 August 2016

In League One, and captain Jay Spearing has doubled Bolton's lead at Bristol Rovers with a 20-yard free-kick.

"What a beauty," says BBC Radio Manchester's commentator Jack Dearden.

Two own goals in the space of six minutes for Shane Duffy, how unlucky is that?!

    Quote Message

Goals are clearly just like London buses for Cardiff City. You wait over five hours for one, then two come along at once. Only in this instance, the other team is driving the bus for you? Not sure how far the analogy will stretch, but Cardiff are just happy that Shane Duffy is here. He's now on a hat-trick, of own goals....

Newcastle put the ball in the net for a second time tonight and this time it will stand.

Isaac Hayden, one of Benitez's new summer additions, is on hand to pounce on Al Al-Habsi's save from a Matt Ritchie free-kick as Reading fail to get it clear.

  20. goal

GOALpublished at 20:02 British Summer Time 17 August 2016

Cardiff 1-0 Blackburn - Duffy OG (14 mins)

Cardiff net their opening Championship goal of the season and it's come courtesy of an own goal.

Shane Duffy is an extremely unfortunate man to see it bounce off his foot from a rebound off the post.

Peter Whittingham had made a strong run down the left for Cardiff before taking a shot low which hit the frame of the goal. Duffy just couldn't avoid it coming back off him.
