Former FA Chairman Greg Dyke: "I think the Football Association have taken the right decision. If you want to be England manager you have to be whiter than white. The FA did not have an option. This guys was being paid more than three million a year, why was he running around after £400,000? We did not have that sort of problem with Roy Hodgson, I think he was straight as a die.

"There were lots of corrupt practices at Fifa which they did nothing about. When the FA discovered they had to act quickly."

If the FA stumble again making an appointment, where would we be then?

"I think back a couple of weeks ago and I was talking to Sam Allardyce about how he might be a lucky manager and he has only lasted one game. He was always talking about his huge pride in the job but in the end the pride was not enough and he has got into this position.
