Young Ajax striker Kasper Dolberg ghosts in behind the Standard Liege defence and tucks home a neat finish to put the Dutch side 1-0 up.

Russian club Krasnador have doubled their advantage against Mario Balotelli's Nice side. Joazinho - great name - getting the second.

Dusan Tadic waltzes straight into the action. Southampton had barely been in Hapoel territory before the Serb's arrival, but now they are making in-roads. His cross is cleared, before Nathan Redmond is caught offside as he races onto Tadic's pass.

Here he is. Dusan Tadic is finally given the nod by the fourth official to come on. Why didn't Saints start him? I'd be fuming if I'd been made to travel all the way there - while your mates are sitting at home, let's not forget - and then have to sit on the bench.

Anyway, he's on for Jake Hesketh. Not a European debut to remember for the young striker. Looks to have a knock.

Where's Dusan Tadic? He's not trotted on yet. Southampton are keeping the ball quite nicely, keeping the incoming sub waiting patiently on the sideline. They're not making much forward progress though.

Oh hello, there's some movement on the Saints bench. Dusan Tadic is taking off his tracky top. Tactical? Or enforced?

Having said that.... Hapoel have showed little quality in the final third. All huff and puff. No big bad wolf ready to blow the Saints house down yet. And, to illustrate the point, home midfielder Maor Melikson shanks the ball out of play...

Not sure what Claude Puel is thinking at the moment. We've not seen him yet. Sitting deep and watching Hapoel knock the ball about inside their half like can't have been Plan A. It is like a training session for the home side.

Not sure Saints have had a kick in the past five minutes. Hapoel have another pot-shot, this time through left wing-back Mihaly Korhut. Saints keeper Fraser Forster watches the ball whizz harmlessly wide, the effort only troubling the bloke behind the goal who had to duck while holding a hot cuppa.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. It has gone from bad to worse for Italian giants Inter Milan, now 2-0 down at Sparta Prague. Czech Republic striker Vaclav Kadlec bagging a double for the home side.

Gent, Schalke and Krasnador are all ahead at home.

If someone is going to score before half-time then it will be Hapeol. Home forward Lucio Maranhao tries to glance a header goalwards but it has less conviction than my attempts to dust the flat. A light touch.

A Saints shot! But it is the footballing equivalent of a practice golf swing. Half-hearted, lacking conviction, hoping that next time it will be much better. James Ward-Prowse blasts well over.

Hapoel push the ball forward that little bit quicker, forcing Virgil van Dijk into conceding a corner. Hapoel send up the big lads from the back. Poor delivery! The sort that annoys  defenders when they have to run back without getting any near the ball.

Saints have a brief foray forward - very brief. Hapeol have plenty of numbers back and the move breaks down. Safe to say this game hasn't burst into life yet... Stick with us.

More good signs from the home side. A neat passing spell ends in Hapoel striker Anthony Nwakaeme being allowed to turn on the edge of the box. Tighter! Nwakaeme shoots straight at Fraser Forster.

I say that... Hapoel are just starting to hog the ball a little bit. But, like Saints, are struggling to find that killer final ball.

About 300 hardy away fans have travelled the 3,146 miles to Israel by the way.

Saints have settled nicely into this match. Knocking the ball around confidently, picking at any hole that Hapoel allow. Trouble is there are no gaps at the moment. Even Steven. Whoever Steven is...

In this group, Frank de Boer's Inter Milan side are already behind at Sparta Prague, with Czech Republic striker Vaclav Kadlec on target.

Taras Stepanenko has given Shakhtar Donetsk the lead against Sporting Braga, while Villarreal are in front too at Steaua Bucharest.

Fraser Forster gets some early handling practice. Virgil van Dijk makes a hash of a clearance, allowing home attacker Maharan Radi to shoot from the edge of the box. Meat and drink for the Southampton stopper.

Welcome to the professional game, son. Young Saints forward Jake Hesketh is given a 'warm' welcome, being barged off the ball by Hapoel hatchetman Miguel Vitor as they compete for a long ball. Hesketh is eating Israeli turf.

    How has he missed that?!

Southampton should be ahead. Skipper Virgil van Dijk is left completely unmarked after James Ward-Prowse floats in a free-kick.

But Van Dijk must think he's stood in his own box. A defensive-style clearance goes hopelessly wide. It's nearer the corner flag than the home goal.
