  1. Thank you and goodnightpublished at 22:30 British Summer Time 17 August 2016

We'll wrap things up there.  Many thanks for your company tonight.

5-2 looks like a handsome win, but it was a bit hairy there at times.   We'll find out next Tuesday if Celtic can finish the job and reach the promised land of the Champions League group stages - and a £20m jackpot.

    Until the next time...

  2. 'The mentality is it's still 0-0'published at 22:28 British Summer Time 17 August 2016

    FT: Celtic 5-2 Hapoel

More from Brendan Rodgers: "We are not getting carried away. There is still a massive job to do out there.  But we showed tonight that when the space is there we can go and score goals.  And they will have to come out and attack us out there. But for us the mentality is the game is 0-0 and we just have to get the job done."

  3. Reaction - Celtic manager Brendan Rodgerspublished at 22:20 British Summer Time 17 August 2016

    FT: Celtic 5-2 Hapoel

"From 3-2, to go on and win 5-2 shows the mental strength as well as the quality in the team. They are nowhere near the finished article yet but they look a very exciting team and full of character."

  4. "It is a great lead to take out there"published at 22:12 British Summer Time 17 August 2016

    FT: Celtic 5-2 Hapoel

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths, speaking on BT Sport, says manager Brendan Rodgers showed he has - in the modern parlance - 'cojones' in the changes he made after Hapoel brought it back to 3-2.

"He takes off Callum McGregor and puts on Nir [Bitton] and takes off Tom [Rogic] and puts on another striker [Moussa Dembele].  It shows how good we are going forward.  We have to tighten up at the back but going forward we always look like scoring.

"It is a great lead to take out there.  We would have snapped your hand off to take a three-goal lead out there."

  6. This tie 'is not all over'published at 21:50 British Summer Time 17 August 2016

    FT: Celtic 5-2 Hapoel

    Pat Bonner
BBC Scotland pundit at Celtic Park

"Celtic were rocking in that second half.  They shouldn't have lost that first goal, they should have been better positioned defensively, and Craig Gordon was beaten at his near post. Once that happened, Celtic's confidence suffered a bit.

"They didn't keep the first-half tempo up at the start of the second half and allowed Hapoel to grow in confidence.

"Even at the end they were looking for a third goal and they will be a handful in the second leg.  This should be enough for Celtic, and I believe they will score out there.  But it is still going to be a tough game - this is not all over."

  8. goal

GOAL - Dundalk 0-2 Legia Warsawpublished at 21:42 British Summer Time 17 August 2016

    Aleksandar Prijovic (90+2 mins)

Heartbreak for the League of Ireland champions.

Substitute Aleksandar Prijovic, with number 99 on the back of his shirt, comes off the bench to link with Tomasz Jodlowiec and clip a beautiful finish over the onrushing Gary Rogers and into the net.

So Celtic will take a three-goal lead to southern Israel for the second leg next Tuesday, 23 August.  They'd have settled for that beforehand.

  11. One last chance?published at 94 mins

    Celtic 5-2 Hapoel

Moussa Dembele is racing through, and is chopped down.  It's a free-kick in a good position, but the referee blows his whistle to signal the end of the game.

  12. ADDED TIMEpublished at 21:35 British Summer Time 17 August 2016

    Celtic 5-2 Hapoel

There'll be four extra minutes of this frenetic, fluctuating, fascinating Champions League play-off first leg.

  13. CLOSE!published at 88 mins

    Celtic 5-2 Hapoel

It could easily have been six.  Scott Sinclair, who has already shown his value since arriving in Glasgow, races away down the left and cuts inside the last defender. He curls his effort right-footed towards the far corner, but Hapoel keeper David Goresh just gets a touch to divert it away.

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 87 mins

    Celtic 5-2 Hapoel

Kolo Toure is booked for kicking he ball away.  He's not happy about it.

  15. goal

GOAL Celtic 5-2 Hapoel (Brown)published at 85 mins

We were just wondering whether Celtic might be able to see out the final five minutes without conceding further, and they go and score again.  Scott Brown gets a bit lucky after his initially left-footed effort strikes a defender. But it deflects up and into space, where the Celtic captain adjusts his position superbly to volley home right-footed.  Sweet strike.

  16. Penalty claim for Hapoelpublished at 80 mins

    Celtic 4-2 Hapoel

Has Scott Brown got away with one there?  The Celtic captain raised his arm and appeared to make definite contact, but Slovenian referee Damir Skomina didn't appear to have the best view.  Let-off for the hosts.

  17. Penalty claim for Celticpublished at 78 mins

    Celtic 4-2 Hapoel

James Forrest goes over in the box under slight contact from Loai Taha, but the referee waves away the appeals.  That looked like the right call.

  18. GREAT SAVE!published at 76 mins

    Celtic 4-2 Hapoel

Celtic still look very vulnerable at the back. A Hapoel break-out gives Maharan Radi the chance to score a third for the visitors, but Craig Gordon beats his header away.

  19. goal

GOAL Celtic 4-2 Hapoel (Dembele)published at 73 mins

There's your answer! He didn't know much about it, but within two minutes of coming on, Moussa Dembele has got his head to Leigh Griffiths's in-swinging corner, and Celtic have a fourth goal.  Inspired substitution by Rodgers?

  20. Dembele on for Celticpublished at 70 mins

    Celtic 3-2 Hapoel

Moussa Dembele, who scored his first Celtic goal with a late winning penalty in the last round against Astana, is on for Tom Rogic.   That means two up front, and a more traditional 4-4-2 formation - or possibly 4-2-4 - for the final 20 minutes.

Do Celtic press on and try to get a fourth goal, or hold onto what they have?
