Well it's early days but Kenny Miller's last-gasp winner against Motherwell has put Rangers top of the Premiership this evening.

Celtic continued their good form under Brendan Rodgers with an impressive showing in Perth where they beat St Johnstone 4-2.

Hearts racked up the biggest victory of the day with a 5-1 trouncing of Inverness CT, who have lost all three league games under new boss Richie Foran.

Kilmarnock looked to have turned things round with victory last weekend, but Liam Boyce's double condemned them to defeat at Ross County.

Aberdeen survived a late Partick Thistle fightback to pick up three points, with Niall McGinn's magnificent free-kick worth catching on Sportscene tomorrow.

So Rangers are top of the table, a point ahead of Celtic and Ross County. Inverness CT sit bottom with zero points and must improve quickly or it could be a long season for the Highlanders.

Ross County manager Jim McIntyre: "When Liam Boyce does things sharp he's a real handful. The wide players are giving him a lot of service at the moment I'm sure he'd be the first to acknowledge that.

"All players thrive on confidence and goal scorers do. Before he got his goals he was playing really well off the front because he's such a clever player.

We've got a trust in Liam that we can play him in several positions but ultimately his best is up front where he bangs in the goals."

Kilmarnock manager Lee Clark: "We started quite brightly. We've given an awful goal away and lost a bit of momentum with that.

"We haven't given the service to our two strikers that their two strikers got."

"The games was won and lost in those areas. They've got to have that service. We played too many long balls which was food and drink for Davies and Quinn.

"Do some of them have to do better? Without a shadow of a doubt. Have some of them done well? Yes.

"We certainly have to better without the ball against a very potent Rangers team (on Friday). Full credit to Ross County."

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes: "I think we knocked off in the last 10 minutes when Welsh was sent off because we thought the game was done but that was a warning that the game is never done.

"All in all it was a good days work though and I thought there were a lot of strong performances from the team today so it was a very positive day.

"Without a couple of influential players we got the game done today which is important ahead of a big game next week at Celtic Park." Partick Thistle manager Alan Archibald: "I was delighted with the spirit that the boys showed especially when they went down to ten men for the last 10 minutes.

"I don't think it was a foul for the first yellow that he got (Sean Welsh) and my player said it wasn't on which is why he was so aggrieved but you can't have dissent and the consequences are we lose him next week."

Inverness CT manager Richie Foran: “I don’t think it was a 5-1. Definitely not. 

"We created more chances today, we had more efforts on goal than we have in the previous three games put together but you got to put the ball in the net. 

"They had that bit more believe when they got their chances they were going to score. That’s what we lacked a little bit today – belief. 

"We had too many players under-performing as well and I’ve got to take a big part of the blame for that."

Hearts manager Robbie Neilson: "I thought the performance was really good today. I said that last week but today the performance was really good and we scored goals which was really pleasing.

"When we brought Don Cowie in last January he wasn't fit he had a little problem with his calfs, but over the summer he rested and you can see the quality he has.

"He's a top quality player and you could see that today."

Dundee United manager Ray McKinnon: "If you had said to me before the game we would have a 3-0 win I would have been happy with that. 

"We had a really good start to the game and a good first half so very pleased with that. 

"The second-half we have to give credit to Ayr United who came back into the game and made it difficult for us.

"This is a strong competitive league and you have to be at it for 90 minutes. It will be an exciting league this season with many twists and turns. We have just to keep winning and do the best we can every week."

Ayr United manager Ian McCall: "I don't think it was a fair reflection on the game. I thought we had a couple of really good opportunities in the first half but I would not begrudge Dundee United their 2-0 lead.

"I thought we were the dominant team for most of the second half and had numerous opportunities to work the keeper but didn't.

"At 2-0 I would have loved to have seen us scoring and see what happens but we didn't. Some of the players are still finding their feet. They were a lot better today but they just need to find their belief at these places and just play."

"Dundee United fully deserving of their first Championship win against Ayr. Simon Murray was relentless throughout as he gave the visitors defence a tough time all afternoon. 

"Jamie Robson also looks to have a real touch of class at full back and the 18-year-old looks to have a very bright future in the game. 

"Ayr fought hard in the second-half but rarely threatened and they will need to find their goal touch soon if the want to retain their place in the league."

Leigh Griffiths continued his sensational goal-scoring form with another against St Johnstone as the champions made it two Premiership wins from two with victory at McDiarmid Park.

It was the striker's 26th birthday, and although he celebrated with a goal and a win, he also picked up a yellow card for simulation.
