As we reach the half-hour mark in the fourth tier, this is what has happened so far:

    • After Nicky Featherstone gave Hartlepool an early lead against Newport County, they had Toto Nsiala sent off for handball while Sean Rigg scored from the following free-kick. To add insult to injury, Jon Parkin has now volleyed the Exiles into a 2-1 lead at Victoria Park.

    • Doncaster Rovers scored the first goal in the EFL this afternoon as Andy Williams' first-minute close-range finish put them in front against Yeovil Town.
    • Omar Bogle has given Grimsby Town the lead against Stevenage.
  5. Villa go close at Ashton Gatepublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 27 August 2016

Aston Villa should have doubled their lead at Bristol City. Jordan Ayew beats two defenders then gets a lucky ricochet off Mark Little only to drag his shot wide.

A let off for the Robins.

Meanwhile, across the second city, David Davis, who has been booked in every game so far this season, has scored today to put Birmingham City in front against Norwich.

Kenny Dalglish was in charge when Blackburn won the Premier League title in 1995.

But 21 years on, I wonder what he makes of the situation at Ewood Park now, with the club bottom of the Championship and without a win so far this season?

He's back on his old stomping ground today and has seen Danny Graham go close to putting Rovers in front, firing narrowly over the bar. Still goalless.
