  1. Celtic go top, Caley up and runningpublished at 18:06 British Summer Time 27 August 2016

That's it for Saturday's Scottish football action.

Any thoughts Aberdeen had of catching Celtic cold after their midweek European exertions were blown away as the champions put the Dons to the sword 4-1 at Celtic Park. Brendan Rodgers' side sit on top of the Premiership this evening, a point clear of Rangers with a game in third.

Hearts move up to third after Tony Watt's dramatic last-gasp winner at Partick Thistle.

Ross County remain fourth despite Dougie Imrie's goal consigning them to defeat at Hamilton.

Motherwell and Dundee played out a goalless draw at Fir Park.

Richie Foran will sleep better this evening after Josh Meeking's last-minute goal gave the Caley Thistle manager his first win since being appointed boss in the summer.

You can read reports and reaction from all of today's Scottish football action on the the BBC Sport Scotland website.

  2. Celtic 4-1 Aberdeenpublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 27 August 2016

“I think 4-1 is really harsh on the team. Anybody that was here at the game would see that.

"Losing the goal before half-time was very frustrating but we knew the game was still there to get points from.

"The referee gets involved with the penalty kick and it’s never a free-kick when Rogic gets pulled down for his free-kick. You’ve got to applaud the quality of the free-kick but it’s not a free-kick in the first place.

"The game runs away from us with ten men."

  3. Neilson praises match-winner Wattpublished at 17:51 British Summer Time 27 August 2016

    Partick 1-2 Hearts

"You saw the quality of Tony Watt at the end. That's the reason we kept him on. Steve [Crawford] and I spoke about changing the shape to try to get something more out of the game, but I wanted to give Tony that opportunity because I knew he would create something. His finish was top drawer."

  4. Hamilton 1-0 Ross Countypublished at 17:43 British Summer Time 27 August 2016

Hamilton Accies manager Martin Canning: "Once we got going we were very good," he told BBC Scotland.

"Today was justification for the players in that if you continue to put that work in and be brave, then you'll win games.

"Every week Dougie Imrie works his socks off and it's nice to see guys like him getting the reward. Guys like him are priceless.

"We spoke about winning more games at home and it's nice to have done that."

Ross County manager Jim McIntyre: "First goal was always going to be crucial.

"I think our quality just wasn't as good as it normally is on the ball. We didn't handle the surface particularly well. It was one of those days when you're scratching your head at times with some poor decision-making from us.

"You always want to go into the international break off the back of a positive result and unfortunately for us we're going in with a defeat."

  5. Dundee Utd 2-2 Raith Roverspublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 27 August 2016

Dundee United boss Ray McKinnon: "I would have to say that was two points dropped.

"From 2-0 up to draw the game is disappointing for us. When you are in that position you should certainly win the game so it's definitely two points dropped for us.

"Jordan Thompson scores a wonder goal and ultimately that gives them something to fight for.

"The first ten minutes of the second half was pretty disappointing. We should be battling harder than that then another wonder strike grabs them a point."

Raith Rovers boss Gary Locke: "I was disappointed with the first twenty minutes because we looked like a team that didn't believe in ourselves.

"We gave them too much respect and sat off them. We made a tactical change and it got us back into the game.

"A great strike by Jordan Thompson but for a good hour of the game I thought we were outstanding."

  6. Heartache for Partickpublished at 17:33 British Summer Time 27 August 2016

    Partick 1-2 Hearts

“I thought a draw would have been a fair result. It was a sore one to take at the end. I thought we defended really well in the second-half and we limited Hearts’ chances. It was a bit of a ricochet and we’re very unlucky with the outcome.”

Robbie Neilson says he did not want to settle for a draw at Firhill because he knew how the other scores in the Premiership were going.

He left match winner Tony Watt on because he felt the striker has the ability to make something happen in the closing  minutes of the game.

  8. A perfect startpublished at 17:23 British Summer Time 27 August 2016

    Celtic 4-1 Aberdeen

“It was arguably our best result of the season because of everything that has gone before it. To end up scoring four goals against a very good side, late on again, really shows the mental and physical fitness of the players. They are relentless at the moment. It’s been a near-on perfect start for us.”

That last minute winner by Josh Meekings was no more than Inverness deserved after a fine performance. ]
