Here are the standings this evening. Sevilla are up to second after their late win over Las Palmas. Atletico Madrid after a wobbly start to the season, are starting to make up ground. Alaves, by the way, are just off the caption, in seventh place.

Alaves have their first away win over Barcelona since 2000, and they deserved it. Mauricio Pellegrino's side were supremely disciplined, took their chances and had the strength of character to recover from a very tricky spell they went through in the first 10 minutes of the second half.

So, Real Madrid finish the day - and will finish the weekend - top of La Liga. Three games in, they are the only top-flight team left with a 100 per cent record.

The shock of the weekend, right there.

But wait! It's Neymar, playing in Lucas Digne down the left for Barcelona... a low ball across to Messi!

No. Messi gets a foot to the ball, but it rolls wide of the far post. That surely is the last chance...

Neymar's ball in is cleared. Alaves get bodies in the way. The ball runs loose to Lucas Digne 20 yards out. He swings a right boot at it... It's wide.

Aleix Vidal surges down the Barcelona right and wins a corner. One more chance...

Lionel Messi through to Luis Suarez... the Uruguay international turns hi sdefender and goes to ground under Daniel Torres' challenge... No penalty. The television replays show there was no contact.

Neymar makes a break on to a ball down the left - but is flagged offside. Three minutes of time added on.

Neymar outnumbered four to one on the edge of the penalty area... A Maradona-esque turn, and he is away for a split-second... until the red-shirted hoards recover and block him out. Carlos Vigaray is arguably a little too vigorous in his defending initially - he appears to have hold of Neymar. The referee is happy to let play continue, though. We're into the last two minutes.

Barcelona left-back Lucas Digne finds space down the left, and mis-hits a cross that loops up into the air. Fernando Pacheco watches it drop, and plucks it out of the air.

The home side win the ball back seconds later, and Andres Iniesta surges forward. He tries the 20-yard right-footed curler into the far corner... but it won't curl for him, and the shot sails wide. Alaves are getting closer and closer...

Alaves midfielder Daniel Torres is down on the turf, stricken with cramp. Barcelona refuse to put the ball out... Jeremy Mathieu finds space, having stayed forward following a Neymar corner, and rolls a cross-shot that the goalkeeper gathers. Torres has to get on with it as best he can, because the visitors have made their three permitted substitutions.

Ibai Gomez, who could yet be the match-winner, has done his stint for Alaves. Victor Camarasa, on loan from Levante, is on in his place.

As the clock ticks down, Luis Enrique's exasperation in the Barcelona technical area is there for all to see. There are whistles from the stands. Ten minutes left.

Who will be the La Liga surprise guys this season?

Dave Wood: Las Palmas are the biggest La Liga surprise so far. Playing some cracking football this season & robbed at Sevilla earlier.

If you missed it, Las Palmas, the morning leaders, conceded two late goals as they were beaten 2-1 at Sevilla.

We're back to where we were at the end of the first half, really. Barcelona are looking short of ideas again; Alaves have all of their defensive players (eg. everyone bar Deyverson) where they should be. Fernando Pacheco, the visitors' goalkeeper, rises to gather a corner unchallenged. There might still be a twist here, though.

It's Lionel Messi, left-footed, from right of centre, and the ball sails over. The clock ticks on.

Kiko Femenia, the right-back, is replaced by Carlos Vigaray for Alaves. Femenia ambles off in slow motion, to impatient whistles from the home fans. He is in no hurry to go, certainly, although he might just be knackered.

Another Barcelona free-kick. Javier Mascherano is hacked down by Raul Garcia, who is booked. Step forward Messi? Or Neymar?

Cristian Espinoza, on loan from Villarreal, has come on for Alaves in place of Edgar, who I think had just about run out of steam. The visitors are 20 minutes from a remarkable victory.

We've got the full artillery out now. Barcelona, who sent on Andres Iniesta a few moments before the second Alaves goal, now have Luis Suarez on as well. Arda Turan has made way for Iniesta, Paco Alcacer for Suarez.
