Thanks for your company this afternoon, as Manchester City Women beat Chelsea Ladies to clinch the 2016 Women's Super League One title.

City will go for a domestic double next Sunday, when they face Birmingham City in the Academy Stadium for the Continental Cup final.

It's been a big day for English women's football, with over 4,000 in a league crowd, and I suspect this day will live long in the memory for Manchester City.

Manchester City and England forward Toni Duggan tells BT Sport:

"It can't believe it. It hasn't sunk in yet. The crowd have been amazing year.

"To say we've won the WSL is a dream come true. I've been waiting for this moment for about 10 years now."

Chelsea won the league and Women's FA Cup double in 2015 but 2016 will be a trophy-less summer for Emma Hayes' side.

In this afternoon's other 14:00 BST top-flight kick-off, Birmingham City have beaten Liverpool Ladies 2-1.

That result lifts Birmingham above the Reds into fourth in the table.

Manchester City Women manager Nick Cushing tells BT Sport: "The way that we set up defensively, we don't give chances away.

"Karen Bardsley has had nothing to do really. That pleases me, because of the work we do on the training pitch.

"I can't signal players out because everyone has been exceptional.

"I'm made up for all the players because the work they've put in has been exceptional."

Man City won't collect the trophy today, by the way. They'll lift it after their final league match of the season against Birmingham City in October.

Chelsea have got the same remit as Manchester City - to win trophies.

I think it will be back to the drawing board for Emma Hayes. Maybe some of the signings haven't had the impact she's wanted.

And it is an ageing side, so she'll probably need to look at that, because it's a balance of having experience and younger players.

Trying to get that balance is a hard job to do.

4,000 people at a WSL game? Go back four or five years and that would be unheard of.

Hopefully this is a sign of things to come in the future for women's football.

'We are the Champions' plays out around the Academy Stadium, where a fantastic crowd of over 4,000 watched today's game - the highest league crowd of the season so far.

Today they've shown their true class. They were by far the best team today. It was 2-0 and it could have been more.

In some games they haven't been pretty to watch but they've done the job. Throughout the season they've worked their socks off and they do deserve to be champions.

Manchester City and England captain Steph Houghton tells BT Sport: "What a feeling.

"We probably deserve that, still unbeaten and conceding the least goals.

"We felt in control. They were never going to break us down.

"That's down to our hard work, not just this week but all season."

City have the ball deep in Chelsea's half. Time will soon be up.

Those 4,000 people are about to make quite a noise, when the final whistle signal's City's first title.

The attendance is announced as over 4,000 and that's the highest WSL crowd of the season and City's largest attendance at the Academy Stadium.

Rebecca Spencer holds Isobel Christiansen's shot at the near post moments after that corner.

Then City win a left-sided free-kick, which Christiansen curls dangerously, towards the far post, but it bounces out of play for a goal kick.

Man City win a corner and they have the ball exactly where they want it.
