Captain Paul McShane told BBC Radio Berkshire his upturn in form is down to a change in attitude.

On Thursday, Port Vale's Nathan Smith became the first recipient of the EFL Young Player of the Month award this season.

The 20-year-old defender took the prize for August after scoring once and helping Vale to three clean sheets in League One during the month.

Vale manager Bruno Ribeiro told BBC Radio Stoke. "For me, he is already a Championship player. In a few years, then Premier League.

"He is fantastic. He is strong and he is still learning every day. He works very hard at his game."

Vale are away at Bristol Rovers today.

The pick of today's games might just come from League One today, with Phil Parkinson leading his second-placed Bolton side against former club Bradford at the Macron Stadium.

Elsewhere, leaders Scunthorpe face a big test as they host sixth-placed Sheffield United.

In League Two, Cambridge United - bottom of the EFL after eight games - travel to fellow strugglers Newport in an early relegation six-pointer.

In the early kick-off, Grimsby picked up a 1-0 win on the road at Mansfield, who have now failed to score a goal in four games.

  7. R's need quick turnaroundpublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 24 September 2016

    QPR v Birmingham (15:00 BST)

Jimmy Floyd HasselbainkImage source, Rex Features

Another manager who might be feeling the heat at the moment is QPR boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, whose R's side have won just one of their previous six league matches to fall to 16th in the table.

There are no such troubles for Birmingham City, who travel to Loftus Road unbeaten in four games and in the play-off spots as it stands.

The Blues are one of only two teams yet to have lost an away fixture this season, with two wins and two draws so far - a record matched only by Fulham.

Team news from all ten of the 15:00 kick-offs will be coming your way shortly.

  8. Trollope under pressure at Cardiffpublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 24 September 2016

    Rotherham v Cardiff (15:00 BST)

    Paul TrollopeImage source, Rex Features

Five points from eight games, bottom of the Championship table - it's fair to say Cardiff manager Paul Trollope is a man under pressure as his side travel to Rotherham.

On Friday, the former Bristol Rovers boss told BBC Wales he still has the full support of the club's chairman and board despite a run of four defeats, but there's no doubt that the Bluebirds need to find form soon.

Their match today might provide the perfect opportunity to do just that, with the Millers only one point ahead of them in 21st place and possessing a league-worst goal difference of -11.

    Norwich v Burton (15:00 BST)

It's fair to say that Norwich haven't garnered quite as much attention as some of the other big-name sides this season, but Alex Neil's team have quietly moved into second in the early Championship table.

Their EFL Cup third round win at Premier League high-flyers Everton has thrust the Canaries firmly back into the limelight ahead of their match with Burton, who are without a win in three league games.

The form guide says this should be a fifth-straight win in all competitions for the hosts, but the Brewers have made a habit of upsetting the odds in recent years.

  10. Brentford hoping to maintain formpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 24 September 2016

Brentford, along with leaders Huddersfield, have been one of the Championship's surprise packages this season, sixth in the table and fresh off the back of a 5-0 hammering of Preston in their last game.

Their latest challenge sees them travel to Wolves, who earned an impressive 2-0 victory at Newcastle in their previous league fixture, but who are also yet to string together consecutive league wins this term.

This game will be one of not two, not three, but four featured matches that we'll be giving you regular updates from over the next three hours or so.

    Jordan HugillImage source, Rex Features

The weekend action got under way last night when Preston continued their revival from losing 5-0 to Brentford as Jordan Hugill's early goal gave them victory over north-west rivals Wigan and extended the Latics' winless run to seven Championship games.

Hugill diverted Aiden McGeady's shot past Wigan keeper Adam Bogdan after six minutes, with Nathan Byrne coming closest to finding an equaliser when he hit the post after initially being denied by Chris Maxwell's save after the break.

Defeat for Wigan was their seventh in all competitions this season, and they are without a win since beating Blackburn on 13 August.
