Part-timers Alloa go into the second 45 minutes still in with a chance of a major shock and are going some way to proving the point wanted by striker Greig Spence.

"There are boys who were in the same youth team as me who are playing every week for Celtic - and, if I'm perfectly honest, they're not a million miles better than me," he told league sponsor Ladbrokes earlier this week.

"Players get the breaks, but there's not that big a difference between the boys who break through and those who get released."

Celtic have looked a class apart in everything but finishing, but Spence, who was sold by Alloa to Celtic for £100,000 in 2009, has threatened a couple of times to score his 10th goal in his 13th appearance this season.

He is not the only Celtic old boy in the black and gold hoops. Veteran midfielder Jim Goodwin, left-back Calum Waters and substitute central defender Jason Marr all started their careers with the Glasgow club.

  12. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:33 British Summer Time 21 September 2016

    Celtic 0-0 Alloa Athletic

No goals in the first half in Glasgow. Alloa have not looked overawed and threatened a little towards the end of the opening period. Celtic have huffed and puffed but the end product has been poor and goalkeeper Craig Gordon was perhaps fortunate to escape a red card.

I think it was the right call, a yellow card for Craig Gordon. It was a kung-fu kick. There is no need for that

  15. YELLOW CARDpublished at 41 mins

    Celtic 0-0 Alloa Athletic

Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon races off his line to close down Greig Spence and takes out the Alloa forward. It's a booking for Gordon, it could have been a dismissal.

  16. CLOSE!published at 37 mins

    Celtic 0-0 Alloa Athletic

Best chance so far. James Forrest is found inside the penalty area and the winger elects to shoot with the outside of his right foot but is off target. He might have been better hitting that with the left.

  17. Way overpublished at 33 mins

    Celtic 0-0 Alloa Athletic

Tom Rogic has had a few shots at goal so far for Celtic and his latest is well over. The Australian midfielder looks a bit frustrated with how this first half is going.

  19. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 28 mins

    Celtic 0-0 Alloa Athletic

Kieran Tierney fired against the crossbar at Inverness on Sunday and the left-back does so again, rattling the Alloa goal from the left-hand side.

  20. GREAT SAVE!published at 23 mins

    Celtic 0-0 Alloa Athletic

After a decent spell for Alloa, Celtic go back on the attack but neither Moussa Dembele nor James Forrest can convert as defenders and goalkeeper Neil Parry make themselves obstacles.
