  5. Joe Lewis aims to floor Saintspublished at 18:23 British Summer Time 21 September 2016

Goalkeeper Joe Lewis is hoping to create some memories to match Aberdeen's win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish League Cup final of 2014.

The Dons host St Johnstone in this season's quarter-final on Thursday.

"The lads have spoken about that," the 28-year-old who signed from Cardiff City this summer said of that previous triumph.

"It gets mentioned every now and then and there are plenty of photos around the place reminding you of that win.

"It does make you hungry to get a bit of that and we have an opportunity on Thursday night to get into the semi-final, if we can win, and something we will relish."

  6. Easton happy to head northpublished at 18:14 British Summer Time 21 September 2016

St Johnstone defender Brian Easton is taking confidence from the Perth side's recent record against Aberdeen as they bid to reach another semi-final.

Saints, seeking a fourth last-four appearance in four seasons, are unbeaten in their previous three match-ups with Thursday's hosts and have only lost once in their last seven, including three visits to Pittodrie without a loss.

"I watched Aberdeen against Dundee and they were impressive," Easton said ahead of the Scottish League Cup quarter-final.

"They can be clinical if you give them chances, but we have no fears going to Aberdeen.

"We seem to do really well against them. I don't know if it is the way we play and they find us hard to break down."

Scotland's women's team have qualified for the finals of their first international tournament, the Euro 2017 finals in the Netherlands.

Their male counterparts have not reached a major finals since the 1998 World Cup.

While there are few parallels between the extent of the challenge faced between the men's and women's national teams, Richard Wilson suggests four things that Gordon Strachan team could learn from the success achieved by Anna Signeul's squad.

  8. Foster absence leaves Saints shortpublished at 17:24 British Summer Time 21 September 2016

Captain Ryan Jack, who continues to be sidelined with a knee injury, is Aberdeen's only absentee for Thursday's Scottish League Cup quarter-final at home to St Johnstone.

Manager Derek McInnes hopes to have the midfielder back in action following next month's international break.

Saints midfielders Danny Swanson and Chris Millar are expected to have recovered from the minor injuries that kept them out of Saturday's Premiership win over Hearts.

But defenders Keith Watson and Tam Scobbie are still on the sidelines through injury, which leaves the Perth side short of options at right-back as Richard Foster, who has already played for Ross County in the competition this season, is cup-tied.

  9. Happy Halliday at captain callpublished at 17:07 British Summer Time 21 September 2016

Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday says "it was certainly one of the proudest moments of my career" to captain Rangers in their 5-0 Scottish League Cup defeat of Queen of the South.

The 24-year-old took over the armband with normal skipper Lee Wallace having been rested for Tuesday's game at Ibrox.

Halliday, a lifelong Rangers fan, led his side out for the first time one week after his training-ground row with Joey Barton led to the English midfielder being suspended by the club for three weeks.

"It's fair to say it's something I dreamed of for a long time," Halliday, who also scored Rangers' second goal, told Rangers TV, external when asked about being captain.

"There's been many, many great football players who have captained this legendary club and to be added to that list, albeit for one game, is a phenomenal achievement for myself.

"Most importantly, it was a 5-0 victory. I thought we were back to our free-flowing best."

  13. Kitchen replaces Ozturk as captainpublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 21 September 2016

Alim Ozturk has lost the club captaincy at Hearts to United States midfielder Perry Kitchen.

Turkish central defender Ozturk has made only one appearance this season amid speculation about his future with the Premiership club beyond the end of his current contract at the end of this season.

The 24-year-old Kitchen joined Hearts in March after leaving DC United.

Head coach Robbie Neilson told his club website: “I’ve been impressed by Perry’s attitude, desire and, of course, his performances from day one.

“He’s a natural and leads by example both on and off the park. He’s also a really good player and will inspire those around him to reach the highest standards.

"I’d like to thank Alim for the huge part he played, and will continue to play, in helping the team to the top end of the league."

  18. Is BBC man set to become new St Mirren boss?published at 13:56 British Summer Time 21 September 2016

We have been discussing St Mirren's moves to bring in Billy Davies as successor to the sacked Alex Rae. The former Motherwell, Derby and Nottingham Forest manager is in talks with the Paisley outfit, but an unlikely candidate has popped up in the mix to become the new St Mirren manager.

BBC Scotland's Chick Young, a long-time St Mirren fan, has emerged as the bookies' ninth favourite for the job, ahead of the likes of Ian McCall and Ally McCoist at 25-1.

The bad news for Chico is that he was as low as 16-1 a couple of days ago, so his odds of landing his dream job are lengthening.

Still, if the eight candidates in front of him all knock-back the job.......
