Sunderland are off the bottom of the Premier League after a deserved win.

  2. 'This could change their season'published at 16:58 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2016

    Sunderland 3-0 Hull

    Garth Crooks
Former Spurs striker on Final Score

Defoe and Anichebe! This could transform Sunderland's season, if the manager is bold enough and brave enough to play them both together.

In his career David Moyes has been too cautious and negative for his own good.

  3. RED CARD for Sunderlandpublished at 89 mins

    Papy Djilobodji

A needless second booking for the Sunderland defender. He goes in late on Bowen and referee mason gives him his marching orders.

Too late to affect the game but so, so needless.

  4. goal

GOAL for Sunderlandpublished at 82 mins

    Sunderland 3 Hull City 0

Anichebe does it again. He's now got three in two and this was a thumping finish. Defoe picked out the powerful forward, he controlled in the area and beat his man before thumping a powerful strike in off the post.

    Game over.

  5. CLOSE!published at 77 mins

    Sunderland 2 Hull City 0

Hull so close to getting one back there but three times they are denied in quick succession.

First Curtis Davies drew a brilliant save from Jordan Pickford with a header from a corner, then Mbokani's follow-up header was cleared off the line by Patrick van Aanholt, who was there again to deny David Meyler.

    Just not the visitors' day.

  6. Penalty shout for Hullpublished at 68 mins

The scoreline might be in Sunderland's favour but I think we're now level in the wrongly-rejected-penalty-claims category.

Hull's Clucas burst into the area and appeared to get tagged by McNair and went over.

Referee Lee Mason having none of it though.

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 67 mins

Hull going for it here and it's one youngster for another.

Twenty-year-old striker Jarrod Bowen comes on for teenage full-back Josh Tymon, who put in a good shift for the Tigers on his Premier League debut.

  9. Collector's itempublished at 16:35 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2016

That was just the second time in his career that Anichebe scored in back-to-back Premier League games.

The last time was waaaaay back in September 2012.

  10. GREAT SAVE!published at 63 mins

Hull are not giving this one up just yet.

The ever-threatening Robert Snodgrass attempts a clever, looping overhead kick but Jordan Pickford is equal to it and tips the ball away to safety.

Nice moment involving two players in fine form this season.

  11. goal

    Sunderland 2 Hull City 0

    Victor Anichebe.

You sense Sunderland have just wrapped this one up.

Good work in the build up by full-back Patrick van Aanholt, who cut in from the left and ran across the 18-yard line before picking out Anichebe, who cut inside Tymon and drilled low past Marshall.

  12. Postpublished at 57 mins

    Sunderland 1 Hull City 0

When Hull do come forward they are doing so in plenty of numbers.

Snodgrass, Henriksen, Livermore, Clucas and Mason are all willing runners and they are flooding the Sunderland half when they do get on the front foot.

The look like they have a goal in them this afternoon.

  13. CLOSE!published at 53 mins

Glorious chance for Hull's Ryan Mason there but he badly fluffed his lines .

Great work down the left by Robert Snodgrass created the opening but the midfielder lacked composure and dragged his left-foot shot wide.

  14. Postpublished at 51 mins

Both teams have been feeling their way back into the match after that delay.

Sunderland are getting a bit bolder now and have just forced a corner after Anichebe's shot was blocked.

  15. Play resumespublished at 16:17 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2016

Play was suspended for 10 minutes in total there - so we resume in the 49th minute.

    A late finish beckons.

It still looks pretty dark in some areas and there's a general half-light feel across the whole pitch.

  16. You can rely on football fanspublished at 16:16 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2016

"We play in the dark, we play in the dark, we are Sunderland, we play in the dark," comes the chant from the stands.

    Nice one.

  17. Suits and clipboards in evidencepublished at 16:14 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2016

Important looking men have begun milling around the tunnel area.

The delay is around 10 minutes now.

Lee Mason is chatting with Sunderland boss David Moyes and Hull's Mike Phelan.

They're all having a good laugh about it at least.

  18. Postpublished at 16:12 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2016

I went to see a Take That gig at the Stadium of Light once (my wife made me on pain of something or other - death probably).

The atmosphere was not unlike this to be honest.

  19. Lights still outpublished at 16:10 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2016

The lights are still not back on and referee Lee Mason is taking the players off.

With that, the lights come back on. Well, some of them anyway.

Ironic cheers from the fans follow...

  20. Floodlight failure klaxonpublished at 16:07 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2016

The Stadium of Light has gone...er... dark.

    Talk among yourselves.

The light of thousands of mobile phones instantly illuminate the stands.
