  4. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:48 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2016

    Sunderland 1 Hull City 0

The half-time whistle blows but moments before it does Sunderland go close to adding a second.

Billy Jones was allowed to advance into the area and should really have shot with only David Marshall to beat, but instead he tried to pull the ball across the face of goal and Michael Dawson got in to make a great block.

A let off for Hull, who nevertheless have work to do in the second half.

  6. ouch!

Painful one for McNairpublished at 43 mins

A pause in the game here while Sunderland's Paddy McNair gets treatment on a knee injury.

It initially looked like one of those innocuous but serious ones - the midfielder pulling up after planting his foot - but he's up now and he might be OK to continue.

Jermain Defoe is one of the best finishers of his generation, he should not be playing for a team like Sunderland. You have to applaud that, brilliant.

He has scored 150 goals, he is up there with the greats of the Premier League.

  8. CLOSE!published at 35 mins

So close to two for Sunderland.

Within moments of the restart the hosts go on the attack again, Anichebe flashing a shot just wide.

Hull all at sea for the moment.

  9. goal

GOAL for Sunderlandpublished at 34 mins

Jermain Defoe brings up his 150th Premier League goal, and he did it in some style.

A long ball forward was flicked on by Watmore ahead of Dawson, taking the Hull captain clean out of the picture.

That left Defoe with a clear run at Davies, who he rounded before ghosting past Elmohamady and firing low past Marshall.

    Lovely finish.

  11. Postpublished at 27 mins

    Sunderland 0 Hull City 0

Mbokani cuts in from the left and fires in a low shot that Kone blocks for a Hull corner.

    Good, open game, this.

  12. Postpublished at 23 mins

    Sunderland 0 Hull City 0

Brave defending by Hull's 17-year-old Premier League debutant Josh Tymon there.

Watmore's purposeful run down the left ended with a cross that Marshall could only tip into the air and towards the back post, where Tymon head away well under considerable pressure from Anichebe - and took a whack for his trouble.

He needs a bit of treatment but he's back on now, rubbing his bonce.

  13. Postpublished at 19 mins

    Sunderland 0 Hull City 0

Another chance for Hull and again it's Clucas in the thick of things. A loose ball in the Sunderland defence was seized on by the tireless midfielder who fired in a low shot that Pickford did well to save diving to his left.

  14. Penalty shout for Sunderlandpublished at 16 mins

    Sunderland 0 Hull City 0

A bit of a mix up at the back for Hull had the home fans shouting for a penalty moments ago - and with some justification.

Elmohamady tried to leave the ball to Marshall with Watmore running in, but by the time the Hull goalkeeper arrived to collect the ball the Sunderland player was on the scene.

He fair clattered into Watmore and replays suggest the hosts are seriously unlucky not to win a penalty there.

  15. CLOSE!published at 13 mins

    Sunderland 0 Hull City 0

Sunderland finally give their fans reason to get excited.

Victor Anichebe advanced down the right and sent a low ball into the box that Curtis Davies could only toe into the path of the advancing Billy Jones, but the Sunderland right-back saw his drilled effort well blocked by Hull captain Michael Dawson.

Patrick van Aanholt is dispossessed in midfield to the sound of groans from the home fans. Hull charge forward again and this time Ryan Mason fires wide.

Sunderland have taken the sting out of Hull in the last few minutes but the hosts are not doing an awful lot in attack as of yet.

  18. Tigers continue to presspublished at 6 mins

    Sunderland 0 Hull City 0

Hull have started very well here. They have a good recent record at the Stadium of Light and it's showing.

Another nice passing move ends with Elmohamady firing in a low cross that Clucas blazes over when he might have done better.

  19. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Sunderland 0 Hull City 0

Another corner for Hull as Sam Clucas' shot from distance is charged down.

Snodgrass takes it but Sunderland clear away.

  20. GREAT SAVE!published at 1 min

    Sunderland 0 Hull City 0

Bright start for Hull and Mbokani has forced a corner already. The former Norwich striker received the ball from Jake Livermore on the edge of the area, beat his man and fired in a low shot that Jordan Pickford turned away.

    Promising for the Tigers.
