    Heurelho Gomes own goal

And from the corner, Stoke take the lead. Charlie Adam is in acres of space in the six-yard box to meet the delivery and head the ball, which strikes the base of the post and ricochets off home keeper Heurelho Gomes and in to the net.

Miguel Britos goes into the book for a late lunge on Xherdan Shaqiri, which leaves the Stoke man limping. Soon after, Stoke win a corner...

    Watford 0-0 Stoke

Roberto Pereyra scored a cracking goal against Leicester last week and he eyes up another here. However, his curling effort flies over the bar.

Soon after, down the other end, Charlie Adam leaps with Heurelho Gomes but comes off second best in the attempt to meet the loose ball.

  4. YELLOW CARDpublished at 24 mins

    Watford 0-0 Stoke

Watford's discipline is going. Nordin Amrabat is penalised for dragging on the shoulder of a Stoke player and responds with a volley of abuse at the assistant. Yellow card for you, sir.

Christian Kabasele dives in on Charlie Adam and concedes a free-kick. Could easily have got a yellow card for that. Bit of a Chucklevision-style start from the Watford substitute.

Finally, to some ironic cheers from the stands, Christian Kabasele comes on for Kaboul.

Come on Christian Kabasele, get yourself ready son! Kaboul does indeed go off but his intended replacement is still sticking in shin pads and taking off layers, leaving Watford with just 10 men.

Etienne Capoue has been a fantasy football manager's dream so far, scoring five goals from midfield this season. He latches on to a loose ball and strikes a low shot that Lee Grant is right behind to save.

Meanwhile, Younes Kaboul is down on the turf and shaking his head. He was a doubt coming in to this game and it looks like his game is over...

Imbula has had a really good start to this game and that strike was something else... Heurelho Gomez was worried - I could tell from the look on his face.

What a strike. It had dip, it had pace, it had power. Could only have been inches off the net...

Just a yard in it! Giannelli Imbula, freshly recalled to the Stoke team, goes very, very close with a curling, dipping effort that whips past the post with Heurelho Gomes diving at full length. I thought the net was gonna go then.

Watford and penned in their own half at the moment. Jose Holebas takes a leaf out of my old primary school teacher's playbook and hoofs the ball out of play to buy his side some respite.

Watford were 2-0 up by this stage of their last game, against Leicester. They've been second best in the opening 12 minutes here, though.

Stoke have started this game really well.

Watford are trying to press them but Stoke are moving the ball quickly so making it hard for them.

Chance. Good anticipation from Daryl Janmaat sees him cut out a pass across the back from Stoke and charge towards the away box. His shot from range is low and fizzing but saved by the diving Lee Grant.

After a quick rub and healing spray, Holebas is OK to continue.

What follows is a great chance for Stoke, who have a free-kick wide left following Etienne Capoue's foul. The ball is swung to the back post, put back in to the mixer by an overhead kick from Diouf and then falls at the feet of Bruno Martins Indi, who draws a good save from Heurelho Gomes with a shot from 12 yards. Should have scored.

José Holebas is down and clutching the base of his spine after an awkward landing following a challenge with Mame Diouf. Don't think there was anything malicious in Diouf's action.

Walter Mazzarri, a scarf looped round his neck, glares on from the Watford bench. Doesn't strike me as a man with whom to mess. I can see Alec Baldwin playing him in his biopic.

No real chances to speak of yet.
