A lot of the pre-match chat centred around how City would use their flying wide men to get behind Chelsea wing-backs Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso. That run from Leroy Sane a few moments ago was the first time that either player has been exposed.

Josh Hammond: I have Hazard and Aguero in my fantasy football squad. I'm hoping for a 3-3 thriller with hat tricks from each of them!

Salman Jaffer: Kante looking a little rusty today, very unusual seeing him give the ball away so much, thrilling much for the neutrals though

Leroy Sane should have been more selfish. It's over the top, on his left foot, he's just yards out - just shoot and score.

I know he's tried to play in Sergio Aguero, but a player with more confidence would have put that away himself.

Could, perhaps should, have been the opener! Leroy Sane lurks at the far post, cutting back David Silva's lofted pass to the waiting Sergio Aguero. He shoots...he doesn't score. Superb sliding block by Cesar Azpilicueta saves a certain goal.

Tempo, movement, aggression. This game has got everything. Apart from a goal of course...

That decision not to punish David Luiz has raised the temperature inside the Etihad Stadium a touch. The City fans are not going to forget this in a hurry. Every David Luiz touch is being booed. Ref Anthony Taylor has a chorus of "You're Not Fit to Referee" ringing in his ears.

David Luiz knows he can't keep up with Sergio Aguero and so simply cuts him off. It's obstruction, a foul pure and simple, and the referee should have noted that.

Lucky, lucky boy! David Luiz blocks off Sergio Aguero's run as the City striker scampers after a potentially dodgy backpass from Cesar Azpilicueta.

Obstruction? Or just strength? It's the latter in the Doncaster and District Sunday Alliance League. Probably the former in the Premier League.

Very watchable is this game. Like the Narcos of the football entertainment world. Don't take your eyes off it.

Three of City's players were offside when that ball was headed in. Then they switched off and were very, very nearly punished by Chelsea.

And while City's players still moan about that goal being rightly chalked off, they are nearly caught napping. Chelsea spring on a lightning-quick counter, Eden Hazard skipping around Claudio Bravo in the left channel of the box.

A heavy touch takes him slightly wide, the Belgian pulling back instead of having the confidence to shoot. He only finds a light blue shirt and the home defence clear.

Man City have a free-kick in a promising position - up go the big lads from the back. Kevin de Bruyne swings in tastebud-tingling cross, which Fernandinho snaffles with his head. But the celebrations are cut short by the offside flag.

Time for another pause. Chelsea forward Pedro needs some treatement after having his ankle clumsily booted by Sergio Aguero as they chase a loose ball. No malice from the City striker. Pedro winces as he receives treatment.

    Back under way....

This is a good spell for Manchester City. They have been seeing more of the ball and retaining possession, pushing Chelsea back a bit where, I feel, they are potentially vulnerable...

Time for Sergio Aguero to pull the trigger. City's top scorer has a dig from 20 yards, his rising shot needing Thibaut Courtois to acrobatically tip the ball over his bar. City's first shot on target.

Chelsea have made a very decent start here - and Eden Hazard is drifting into those little pockets of space where he is so difficult to control.

Conte's men are also applying pressure on City's defence, with John Stones already caught in possession in his own penalty area.

Nicolas Otamendi is the first player to have his name taken by referee Anthony Taylor. Not for his awful haircut, however. For a lunging challenge on Diego Costa near the halfway line. That's his fifth of the season, meaning he will miss the trip to Leicester. And it puts him on a disciplinary tightrope for the next 70+ mins...

This is a very good game, end-to-end. Two very skilful teams giving each other plenty of respect.

Looking at the touchline, who was the better player in his day, do you think? I think Antonio Conte just edges it... but then that's the Midfielders' Union for you!

Ooof! Closest to a goal yet. Eden Hazard smashes a low volley which fizzes past Claudio Bravo's left-hand post.

Quite route one from Chelsea actually. Pedro knocks the ball up to Diego Costa, he chests it down to Hazard, then bang...
