Sir Bobby Charlton is at Selhurst Park. Is this the night Wayne Rooney equals his record as Manchester United's all-time leading goalscorer in all competitions?

The teams are in the tunnel.

Alan Pardew's team have taken four points from the past couple of games.

It's helped ease the pressure on the manager, but they've been leaking like a sieve at the back recently and that needs to change if they are to get anything here.

Stand-out sight so far is Wayne Rooney's increasingly lavish beard.

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew: "The defenders I'm playing are those who have been here two or three years. Sometimes it's about confidence and a bit of luck here and there.

"Defending is a team duty. Everyone has a responsibility to defend, even the substitutes. That's something we want to improve on.

"Sometimes our substitutes haven't shored us up as well as they should have."

  12. Pitiful defencepublished at 19:38 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2016

Crystal Palace v Man Utd (20:00 GMT)

Palace have scored a total of 10 goals in the past three games yet they have won one of those matches. That's down to a pitiful defensive record.

In the past seven top-flight games alone, the Eagles have let in 20 goals. No wonder they are at the wrong end of the table.

  13. Rooney returnspublished at 19:36 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2016

Wayne Rooney needs just one goal to equal Sir Bobby Charlton's Manchester United club record of 249 goals - and he is back from the start to try and make history at Crystal Palace tonight.

He is one of four changes from the side that beat Spurs with Juan Mata, Eric Bailly and Danny Blind replacing the injured Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Antonio Valencia and Antony Martial and Matteo Darmian.

Manchester United travel south on the back of a big win over Tottenham, knowing they need to keep winning to stay in touch with those above in the fight for a top-four place.

United seem to be moving in the right direction at the moment and now trail Spurs by just three points and neighbours Manchester City by six.

They're unbeaten in the past 14 league meetings with Crystal Palace too, a run stretching back 25 years.

Crystal Palace start three points above the relegation zone after one win in nine Premier League games. They could drop two places to 17th if they lose to United, and West Ham and Middlesbrough both win.

Manchester United start six points adrift of a top-four spot. With fifth-placed Tottenham hosting lowly Hull City (20:00 GMT) and fourth-placed Manchester City at home to mid-table Watford (20:00). United cannot afford to drop points at Selhurst Park.

  19. Manchester United have arrivedpublished at 19:23 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2016

Crystal Palace v Man Utd (20:00 GMT)

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Selhurst Park

Manchester United will be growing to seriously dislike London traffic - they arrived just less than an hour before kick-off at Crystal Palace.

Kick-offs were delayed at both Spurs and West Ham United last season because they arrived late and they were cutting it fine again here tonight.

Roads leading into Selhurst Park from miles around have been choked for some time, not just because of the usual match traffic but also because of a train strike.

Jose Mourinho led his players into Selhurst Park and now he will hope they are not affected by the disrupted build-up.
