Rubbish. Adlene Guedioura's free-kick doesn't trouble Claudio Bravo, sailing over the bar. The Man City keeper has barely laid a glove on the ball. Walter Mazzarri slumps down into his seat and puffs out his cheeks.

Normally, Pep Guardiola is by far the most animated manager in the technical area at a Manchester City game.

But with Guardiola slightly subdued, Walter Mazzarri is giving him a good go.

Admittedly it tends to require communication from his staff to get his arms waving or fingers pointing but once he gets going he is pretty expressive.

He also nipped out for a smoke before the game judging by pictures on social media.

Will this change be a Success? An Isaac Success? I'll get my coat.

That free-kick comes to nothing, but it is not long until Raheem Sterling is in the thick of things again. The Manchester City winger picks up the ball in midfield, runs at a back-pedalling Watford defence, then drills a rising 18-yard drive that clips the top of the crossbar.

Pace. Injected. Raheem Sterling sticks on the burners, toasting Miguel Britos for speed. The Watford defender looks like he is running in tar and has to haul him down.

Pep Guardiola is cajoling his troops from the technical area. Arms waving, fingers pointing. I've no idea what he is telling them.

Nice. Sebastian Prodl goes all Franz Beckenbauer on us. The Watford defender neatly chests down a long pass before playing his way out of trouble.

Nothing more to add at the moment. Even steven.

Manchester City almost take advantage of their numerical advantage. Kevin de Bruyne worms his way into space on the right, drilling low across the face of goal from the byeline.

Heurelho Gomes spills, no blue shirt can take advantage. Jose Holebas calmly clears.

Daryl Janmaat, now in a more advanced position on the Watford right, has to go off to get cleaned up.

We've barely got started before we stop again. Cue groans from the home fans.

Watford's Daryl Janmaat's looks have taken a hit. He heads the ball clear and then follows through on Gael Clichy's shoulder (accidentally, of course). Claret everywhere.

Nolito enthusiastically rubs his hands together as he waits to get the ball rolling again. Referee Kevin Friend takes what seems an eternity to blow whistle. A few looks at the watches, a quick head count, he's happy.

The time has come to GAL-VA-NISE! The Manchester City players come back out to the sound of the Chemical Brothers classic, while Watford manager Walter Mazzarri makes a few notes as he takes his seat in the comfy dugout.

Ilkay Gundogan looked in a fair bit of discomfort as he walked down the tunnel just then.

It is to be hoped the damage is not too bad for the Germany midfielder, who has had more than his fair share of injuries already.

A back injury sustained on international duty in August 2013 kept him out for 13 months and his Manchester City debut was delayed by a month when he dislocated his knee cap at the beginning of May.
