We saw Celtic fly out of the traps against City and the early signs are promising for another cracker. The visitors swarm forward in numbers at the first opportunity, with the hosts countering quickly as goalkeeper Yann Sommer gets down smartly to smother a Moussa Dembele cross.

Having surrendered so meekly to Barcelona in the opening tie of the group campaign, Celtic played with an intensity bordering on the berserk in the six-goal thriller with Manchester City.

I'm sure there was a lot more to Brendan Rodgers' tactics that night but the overriding message appeared to be "get tore in about them".

Are we in for a similar treat tonight? Gladbach favour a cavalier 3-4-3 formation and are not exactly renowned for a solid defence.

The visitors have not won since their last Champions League outing. Having taken the lead at home to Barcelona, they lost out 2-1. On returning to Bundesliga action, the Foals were thumped 4-0 at Schalke and played out a 0-0 draw at home to Hamburg at the weekend.

Gladbach sit ninth in the league with three wins from seven.

Tonight's referee is Greek Tasos Sidiropoulos, who caused controversy two years ago when he took charge of Manchester City's 2-1 defeat to CSKA Moscow.

City were trailing and down to 10 men when Pontus Wernbloom, who had already been booked, tugged Sergio Aguero back. But instead the yellow card was shown to the wrong player in a case of apparent mistaken identity.

The policeman from Rhodes has brandished an average of five yellow cards per Champions League game.

  8. Borussia Monchengladbach's Scottish recordpublished at 19:23 British Summer Time 19 October 2016

    Celtic v B M'gladbach (19:45)

This is the first competitive meeting between the sides.

Tonight's visitors do have experience of playing Scottish opponents when it counts and it's been a mixed bag.

They have met Rangers on three occasions, winning through twice, once on away goals, after a bruising 11-0 aggregate loss in the 1960-61 Cup Winners' Cup.

Aberdeen were turned over 9-5 on aggregate in the first round of the 1972-73 Uefa Cup.

Dundee United fans have much better memories after their favourites overturned a 2-0 first leg deficit with a thumping 5-0 win at Tannadice in 1981 and then beat the same opponents, winning 2-0 in Germany, to reach the final of the 1987 Uefa Cup final.

  9. Vogts remains record holder for Gladbachpublished at 19:18 British Summer Time 19 October 2016

    Celtic v B M'gladbach (19:45)

The German side enjoyed a golden period in the 1970s, winning five titles and two Uefa Cups and losing the 1977 European Cup final to Liverpool.

They had a few very tasty players in those days, including Jupp Heynckes, Uli Stielike, Rainer Bonhof and former Scotland manager Berti Vogts.

Old Berti is not recalled with much fondness by the Tartan Army but he is an absolute legend with Die Borussen. The 69-year-old World Cup winner was a one-club man and holds the Foals record for most Bundesliga appearances.

  10. 'Responsibility for unpredictability'published at 19:13 British Summer Time 19 October 2016

    Celtic v B M'gladbach (19:45)

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers talking at yesterday's media conference:

"There is an obligation here as Celtic manager. I feel a responsibility to put out a team that plays with power, speed, creativity and unpredictability and that is what we are heading towards. We have players at the moment who are doing fantastic in this early part of the season but we are looking to develop that while having that improvisation and invention that I like in the team. But certainly up until now the players couldn't have done any more."

The noise at Celtic Park for the visit of Manchester City was just ridiculous! Goalkeeper Craig Gordon said afterwards that the players really struggled to communicate.

The volume will be turned up to 11 again this evening. But that shouldn't phase the visitors too much since they regularly attract crowds of 50,000 to Borussia Park.

"We are going to meet with a lot of passion from the fans," said manager Andre Schubert. "This will be a big challenge but we need to make an impact and be aggressive."

  12. Foals falling like fliespublished at 19:01 British Summer Time 19 October 2016

    Celtic v B M'gladbach (19:45)

Much has been made of the visitors' injury list.

Forwards Raffael and Thorgan Hazard are missing, along with defender Andreas Christensen, while USA international Fabian Johnson did not travel due to illness.

Josip Drmic and Alvaro Dominguez are long-term absentees for the Foals. The cuddly nickname comes from the young, vibrant nature of their most teams from the 1970s, in case you're wondering.

  13. Big night at the Nou Camppublished at 18:57 British Summer Time 19 October 2016

    Celtic v B M'gladbach (19:45)

There's a real clash of the Titans going on the Nou Camp this evening and we'll keep you up to date on how Group C rivals Barcelona and Manchester City are faring.

It should be a special occasion with Pep Guardiola going back to his old club as City aim to avenge home and away round of 16 defeats in seasons 2013-14 & 2014-15.

  14. New arrival for Gamboa familypublished at 18:53 British Summer Time 19 October 2016

  18. Celtic target first group winpublished at 18:40 British Summer Time 19 October 2016

    Celtic v B M'gladbach (19:45)

Celtic recovered from a 7-0 mauling at the Nou Camp with a stirring 3-3 draw at home to Manchester City to open their Champions League account. Can they go one better tonight as Borussia Monchengladbach visit Glasgow's east end?

With two of Europe's biggest spenders in Group C, is this mid-section double-header all about who finishes third for a Europa League spot or are there Celtic fans hoping the Catalans run away with it, leaving City vulnerable?

Borussia Monchengladbach are yet to get off the mark after losing at the Etihad and at home to Barca.
