  2. England game will decide our future - Strachanpublished at 13:08 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2016

Gordon Strachan thinks the post match debrief following the World Cup qualifier against England could determine whether he has future as national team manager.

Strachan was asked whether Scott Brown's decision to come out of international retirement was for the England game only or for the longer term.

"After the England game we'll have a debrief and after it we will decide what the future is for everybody because we're facing a really good England team," the Scotland boss responded.

Strachan says anyone who thinks he considered stepping aside after the recent defeat by Slovakia "doesn't know'' him.

"It's not about me. If you honestly think I was thinking about myself in that 24 hours you don't know me.

"I was thinking - how do I get these players the staff the fans to a major tournament?"

"The disappointment was great, so you think about everything, but since that Wednesday night you think here we go and we're really looking forward to it (the England game)."

  3. Prime Minister hits outs at Fifa over poppiespublished at 12:48 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2016

    Richard Conway
BBC Radio 5 live sports news correspondent

The Prime Minister Theresa May has waded into the row over Fifa's refusal to sanction the wearing of poppies during the match between England and Scotland at Wembley on 11 November.

"The stance taken by Fifa is utterly outrageous," May said in Parliament during Prime Minister's Questions today.

"Our football players want to recognise and respect those who have given their lives for our safety and security - I think it is absolutely right they should be able to do so.

"I think a clear message is going from this House. I should say to Fifa before they start telling us what to do they jolly well ought to sort their own house out."

  12. Macleod ruled out for the seasonpublished at 11:47 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2016

You have to feel for Lewis Macleod after the former Scotland Under-21 midfielder's latest injury blow.

Brentford have revealed that the 22-year-old will require reconstructive knee surgery and has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Macleod will have an operation in two weeks, which is expected to sideline him for nine months, following his injury during the English Championship side's victory over QPR on Friday.

His career has been dogged by injury since his move from Rangers in January 2015 and was previously ruled out for a year because of various injuries, the first being picked up in his Brentford debut.

Macleod had been called up to the Scotland squad for the first time a couple of months before his transfer from Ibrox, but he has yet to win a full cap.

Scott Brown impressed once again in Celtic's midfield against Borussia Monchengladbach last night, continuing his excellent form this season.

The Celtic captain retired from Scotland duty in the summer before catching everybody by surprise last week by declaring his availability for the World Cup qualifier against England a week on Friday.

The midfielder is almost certainly going to be named this afternoon in Gordon Strachan's squad for the trip to Wembley, but the question we are asking is:

Should Scott Brown captain Scotland against England?

Celtic will need to win one of their final two Champions League group matches - at home to Barcelona and away to Manchester City - to have any chance of securing third place and Europa League football beyond Christmas.

So can Brendan Rodgers' men pull off a major shock against one of Group C's big guns to extend their stay in Europe?

  16. 'Celtic made a statement'published at 11:07 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2016

Mikael Lustig believes the battling draw at Borussia Monchengladbach was Celtic's best away European performance in his time at the club.

The Swede, along with Scott Brown, Emilio Izaguirre and James Forrest are the only survivors from Celtic's only away group win in the competition.

That 2012 win at Spartak Moscow came in Lustig's first full season at Celtic.

"To go away from home, face a good side and play like we did is a statement," said Lustig of the 1-1 draw in Germany.

  20. Rodgers - We deserved to winpublished at 10:12 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2016

Brendan Rodgers felt Celtic were the "best team" and should should have beaten Borussia Monchengladbach.

Moussa Dembele secured a 1-1 draw by scoring from the penalty spot after Lars Stindl had volleyed Gladbach ahead in the Champions League Group C tie.

The result kept Celtic's hopes of progression to the knockout stage alive, though they would need to beat both Barcelona and Manchester City.

"It's another step forward in a very short period of time," said Rodgers.

"We're trying to create a team that can come to Europe - both at home and away - that can be a real threat but play with a composure and a bravery on the ball."
