GOAL: Nicklas Bendtnerpublished at 52 mins

    Nottingham Forest 1-1 Newcastle

Newcastle's resistance is broken at last.

Karl Darlow flaps at a cross, but recovers brilliantly to save from Nicklas Bendtner at close range.

The Dane makes no mistake from the rebound, stabbing in to level the scores.

Newcastle also made a change at half-time, bringing on Vurnon Anita for Ayoze Perez as they attempt to cling on to all three points.

This will have to be a Herculean effort from the league leaders, but Forest haven't threatened so far in this second period.

So, Newcastle two men down - and probably unfortunate to be so, having watched that second sending off back.

Britt Assombalonga comes on for Nottingham Forest, who have 45 minutes to turn the score around.

QPR v WolvesImage source, Rex Features

Wolves - wearing a ridiculously hi-vis kit - kicked off the weekend's football last night, moving within a point of Nottingham Forest with last night's 2-1 victory against QPR, and in turn ended a nine-game winless run.

Former Forest and Magpies defender James Perch was sent off for Rangers, and Dave Edwards and Helder Costa scored to put the visitors 2-0 up.

Joel Lynch - another ex-Forest player - tucked in a consolation for Ian Holloway's side.

That what happened there, there's no way Paul Dummett should be sent off for that. There's a coming together but he just falls over.

  7. Get involved - #bbceflpublished at 20:42 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

    Nottingham Forest 0-1 Newcastle

Matt Blazey: Deserved red for Jonjo, but this ref is having a mare. Two blatant penalty shouts and unjustifiably disallowed goal. Shambles.

Will Knox: Finally the assistant on that side makes a decision

Kyle: Get in brilliant save again from Darlow. Abysmal performance from the referee. Very soft second penalty.

Paul: Not a Newcastle fan but that 2nd red, what happened to the new law where it said its a yellow only if giving a penalty away?

  8. Darlow's happy returnpublished at 20:40 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

    Karl DarlowImage source, Rex Features

Karl Darlow played 111 games for Forest.

After those two penalty saves, he might just be the least popular man in Nottingham tonight.

Simply incredible goalkeeping - but with his side two players down, surely the hosts can turn this one around?

  9. Darlow saves again!published at 45+3 mins

    HT: Nottingham Forest 0-1 Newcastle

That is one of the most extraordinary finishes to a half of football I have ever seen.

Henri Lansbury picks himself up to take the penalty, but Karl Darlow makes a magnificent stop down to his right.

Newcastle, down to nine men, somehow hold on to their one-goal lead.

  10. NEWCASTLE DOWN TO NINE MENpublished at 45+2 mins

    Nottingham Forest 0-1 Newcastle

Another sending off, another penalty, and Hneri Lansbury is involved again.

Lansbury is in behind the defence after a long ball forward, and Paul Dummett makes some contact with the back of the Forest man, who hits the deck.

Just two minutes of added time to be played.

How do the hosts respond from here?

  12. goal

GOAL: Matt Ritchiepublished at 45 mins

    Nottingham Forest 0-1 Newcastle

    10-man Newcastle take the lead!

Isaac Hayden's low cross into the box is miscued by a Forest defender into the path of Matt Ritchie, who lashes an unstoppable left-footed effort beyond Vladimir Stojkovic.

They can't keep giving away free-kicks. They've all been a problem. The last one was a disallowed goal and already Forest are struggling with free-kicks.

    Nottingham Forest 0-0 Newcastle

You wouldn't know Newcastle were playing with 10 men here.

Yoan Gouffran tests Reds keeper Vladimir Stojokovic with a low drive, but the Serbian gets down sharply to save.

Forest have yet to create much in the way of an attacking threat since Nicklas Bendtner's penalty miss.

  15. Postpublished at 38 mins

    Nottingham Forest 0-0 Newcastle

    It's all happening.

Newcastle think they have the lead, as Ciaran Clark heads the ball in from a free-kick.

No such luck for the visitors - the referee says Clark was pushing Matty Cash and it's a free-kick to the hosts.

  16. MISSED PENALTY: Nicklas Bendtnerpublished at 34 mins

    Nottingham Forest 0-0 Newcastle

Nicklas Bendtner steps up to take it.... saved!

The Dane tries to place it low and to the right, but Karl Darlow guesses right and parries clear.

It was a poor penalty in all honesty. Darlow and the Newcastle fans won't mind.

  17. RED CARD: Jonjo Shelveypublished at 33 mins

    Nottingham Forest 0-0 Newcastle

Jonjo Shelvey is a magnificent footballer at his best, but he has let his side down here.

Shelvey tangles with Henri Lansbury inside his own penalty area, before kicking out at the Forest midfielder.

The assistant referee spots it - it's a red card, and a penalty to follow...

Nicklas Bendtner, seen here getting a rare touch of the ball, is looking completely isolated up front for Nottingham Forest.

Dwight Gayle, the Championship's leading goalscorer, seems equally frustrated.

He gets a touch inside the Forest box, heading wide of the target after a deflection from a defender.

Decent build-up play from Newcastle on the edge of the box, allowing Yoann Gouffran to get a shot away.

The Frenchman's effort bends narrowly wide of the Forest goal, though keeper Vladimir Stojkovic definitely had it covered.

Remember when I promised you there'd be goals? Sorry about that.

Midway through the first half and it's been pretty even.

Newcastle had been starting to assert their control, but the hosts have improved again in the last few minutes, though without creating any clear opportunities in front of goal.

Rafa Benitez looks less than impressed with what he's seen so far.
