To be fair to Nicklas Bendtner he's had no supply. Forest have had little possession, little quality and he's had little support. I'd like to see Forest - at home, after two wins - impose themselves a bit.

Appeals for a penalty from Nottingham Forest, as Ben Osborn goes down inside the Newcastle box.

He was running shoulder to shoulder with full-back Paul Dummett, and the pair do collide to send both crashing to the deck.

A penalty there might have had the visitors feeling a touch aggrieved.

    Nottingham Forest 0-0 Newcastle

Newcastle win a free-kick on the right, which is whipped into the box by Jonjo Shelvey.

It's a teasing delivery, right across the six yard box, which Vladimir Stojkovic does well to parry the ball out of the box.

It might have looked a bit awkward, but it's sensible goalkeeping in difficult conditions.

Forest have set up to drop off Newcastle but with the quality the visitors have they shouldn't be letting them have so much possession. Forest need to impose themselves.

    Big chance!

Eric Lichaj delivers a wonderful long ball from the left and picks out Matty Cash in space in the box. Cash makes good contact, but Karl Darlow gets down to make the save.

Moments later at the other end, Matt Ritchie bends a shot from distance narrowly over the bar.

DeAndre Yedlin tries to spark some life into the Newcastle attack, bursting forward with the ball and into the Nottingham Forest box.

Ben Osborn does brilliantly to track all the way back and steal possession back. Great commitment from the Forest youngster.

A few of Nottingham Forest's fans boo their former keeper, Karl Darlow, as he gets his first touch of the ball in the Newcastle goal.

No chances so far, with both sides getting a few touches of the ball.

I was expecting, despite Rafael Benitez being a good manager, to see him start buying in Spanish players and not understand the Championship. He's not, he's bought players who know the Championship and can play good football.

Newcastle, wearing their Black and White shirts and shorts, get us under way.

The first attack comes to an end as an overhit long pass runs through for a Forest goal-kick.

Nottingham Forest v Newcastle (19:45 GMT)

As there will be at games around the world this weekend, the two teams hold a minute's silence to remember the victims of the Colombian air disaster earlier this week.

71 people lost their lives in the crash, including 19 players and members of the coaching staff of Brazilian team Chapecoense.

The silence, as it was yesterday at Loftus Road ahead of QPR's game with Wolves, is impeccably observed.

Karl Darlow is preferred to Matz Sels and returns to start against his former club.

DeAndre Yedlin and Paul Dummett fill in the two full-back spots as Newcastle make four changes from the side which lost to Hull in midweek, with Ayoze Perez taking over from Mohamed Diame in an advanced midfield role.

Newcastle: Darlow, Yedlin, Lascelles, Clark, Dummett, Hayden, Shelvey, Ritchie, Perez, Gouffran, Gayle.

Subs: Sels, Mbemba, Anita, Tiote, Diame, Atsu, Mitrovic.

As I mentioned earlier, Nicklas Bendtner leads the Forest forward line, making his first start for the club since a 3-1 win over Birmingham on 14 October. Apostolos Vellios drops to the bench to make way for the big Dane.

Defender Joe Worrall is out with a concussion, but Eric Lichaj has recovered from a calf injury and starts.

Nottingham Forest: Stojkovic, Lichaj, Mancienne, Mills, Perquis, Cash, Lam, Lansbury, Kasami, Osborn, Bendtner.

Replacements: Henderson, Assombalonga, Carayol, Vaughan, Hobbs, Grant, Vellios.

Alan Shearer and Chris SuttonImage source, EPA

Readers of a certain vintage will remember when the SAS, better known as Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton, banged in the goals for Blackburn in the mid-90s.

There was a glut of great partnerships at the time: 'RAF' Ian Rush and Robbie Fowler at Liverpool, Peter Beardsley and Andy Cole at Newcastle and Bryan Roy and Stan Collymore at Nottingham Forest.

Anyway, Messrs Shearer and Sutton have been saying they would still 'do some damage' in the modern game, bemoaning the recent displays of modern strike-forces.

So... our punt tonight is who would you bring back from the annals of history to lead your team's attack? It's fair to say Stan C and Alan S would be welcomed back eagerly by the respective supports tonight.

As for Newcastle, well, it's not been the best of weeks, with a surprise home defeat by Blackburn last weekend followed up by a loss to Hull in the quarter finals of the EFL Cup on Tuesday.

Still, could be worse - Rafael Benitez's side can go five points clear at the top of the table with victory at the City Ground.

The Magpies have looked unplayable at times in the league this season, and with only one defeat in the past 11 league meetings with Forest, they'll remain confident of matching Phillipe Montanier's resurgent group.

Should Nottingham Forest fail to produce the attacking fireworks we're expecting, they have a pretty prolific striker on the bench in the shape of Britt Assombalonga, who is making his comeback after another injury layoff.

With Assombalonga unable to start, Nicklas Bendtner will be leading the line up front to try to get his side firing, and in doing so extend their unbeaten run to four games.

That recent form has seen Forest climb away from the relegation zone, with a win tonight putting them seven points clear of the drop, just four points outside the play-off places.

While there are no guarantees in football, anything less than a feast of attacking football in the Championship tonight would be quite the upset.

Nottingham Forest have conceded 32 times in 18 games this season, more than any other team in the division apart from bottom side Rotherham, but they've also scored 32 goals of their own.

The only team to score more? Tonight's opponents, Newcastle, who have found the net a whopping 36 times already.
