Drums being beaten in the stands, the home fans encouraging their players as half-time nears. Much of the play in these last few minutes has taken place in the middle of the pitch. The Dutch, understandably, keen to release Shanice van de Sanden at every opportunity.

A first sight of Karen Carney and she's posing questions, skipping into the box from the left and finding Jill Scott at the far post with a canny, floating cross, but the striker cannot get enough power on her header to test Loes Geurts. Better for England.

Van de Sanden has been outstanding. I remember thinking she was just pace when I saw her a few years ago, but now she developed an end product to her game. She has been key for Liverpool in the WSL, scoring some very good goals.

Shanice van de Sanden is always an outlet for the Dutch. What a player. Once again the lively winger causes chaos, picks out Renate Janssen whose half-volley is blocked from five yards by Lucy Bronze. It seems only a matter of time before the hosts will score.

  5. 'Duggan is very, very isolated'published at 18:31 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

Toni Duggan has been very, very isolated up front. There are three or four players around her every time she gets the ball. When she comes in to receive the ball, she needs a midfield runner like Karen Carney or Jill Scott to run beyond her.

Lieke Martens breaks at lightning speed, forcing England's defence to backpedal. Once again she combines well with Shanice van de Sanden, whose shot is blocked by Jill Scott. Ominous.

The Netherlands are content to watch England's players spray the ball around in their own half, but once the ball crosses the halfway line the players in orange step up and smother the player  in white who has the ball.

Karen Carney sends in a hopeful cross towards Isobel Christiansen in the box but there's a Dutch defender in her way.

Whenever England step into enemy territory, they lose the ball. It's a struggle, a battle. England's head coach Mark Sampson watches on from the dugout with a concerned look on his face.

  9. 'England need to assess the back three'published at 18:23 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

The Dutch manager will have said to the players to get wide and attack the back three at pace. Maybe that back three is something England need to assess.

For territory, for possession, there's only one team in it - but there's plenty of minutes left in this friendly for the visitors gain momentum.

Jill Scott loses the ball... England are on their heels again... Jade Moore is beaten for pace by Lieke Martens and the Notts County defender is penalised. A free-kick for the Netherlands, a chance for them to attack once again.

  11. 'England are struggling with the Dutch intensity'published at 18:19 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

Martens is Holland's best player - she can drift wide or cut in and the Netherlands looks to her to make things happen. The Dutch are sitting back, but when they get to a certain place in the field, they press with intensity and England are struggling to deal with that.

The hosts monopolising possession. When they get the ball, England are struggling to pass out from defence, their sloppiness in possession is giving the Netherlands a chance to add some more pressure.

The Netherlands look dangerous on the counter-attack. A cute turn by Lieke Martens, giving England's defence twisted blood, and the forward gallops onwards before nearly putting Shanice van de Sanden clear at the far post. Danger.

  14. 'England need to tighten up'published at 18:13 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

Holland are causing all kinds of problems down the right, and van der Sanden looks really up for it. England need to tighten up defensively.

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 9 mins

    Netherlands Women 0-0 England Women

Shanice dan de Sanden causing the hosts all sorts of problems down the right flank, her pace, her guile might prove to be England's downfall.

The Dutch have been forced into an early substitution, by the way, with the experienced Renee Slegers forced to hobble off the pitch. She has been replaced by Renate Janssen.

Oof! A rapid attack by the hosts and England are fortunate to come away unscathed with the ball flying across the box without a player in white or orange able to make contact. A lucky escape. The hosts gaining in confidence and starting to set the tempo.

  18. Izzy to be busy down the wing?published at 18:04 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

The wing backs are something Mark Sampson has played with, and I think he will play Izzy Christiansen out wide. It will be interesting to see how she plays, as she is usually in the No.10 role for Manchester City.

Toni Duggan is playing as the lone striker so the Manchester City player will have much work to do. Karen Carney, lively in this opening, takes a strike from distance and brings Loes Geurts into play, but the goalkeeper comfortably deals with Carney's shot.

The Lionesses, playing in their all-white strip, get early possession but the Netherlands seem keen to close them down rapidly, eager to warm the limbs on this chilly-looking Dutch night.
