Thumbs up. These mock Paul Heckingbottoms will be happy.

Heckingbottom's chargers have just taken the lead in Cardiff thanks to Sam Winnall's second of the game.

    Sheffield Wednesday 0-0 Rotherham

BBC Sport's Seth Bennett at Hillsborough:

"Chances are few and far between. Rotherham United have set up with 10 men behind the ball and are challenging Sheffield Wednesday to break them down.

"Tom Lees' header, which went over the top, the only chance of any note so far."

    Burton 1-1 Newcastle

Despite going down against Newcastle, Burton are on top at the Pirelli Stadium.

Burton haven't lost back-to-back home games in two years - having been defeated by Huddersfield in midweek - as the referee turns down an appeal by the Brewers for a penalty when Chris O'Grady went down in the box.

Bristol City 0-1 Preston, Cardiff 1-1 Barnsley

Bristol City have dominated the opening stages at Ashton Gate but it's Preston that are on the scoresheet thanks to big man Simon Makienok, who turns in Callum Robinson's delivery from close range.

Barnsley have drawn level in Wales thanks to Sam Winnall after he headed home Conor Hourihane's pin-point pass.

    Lloyd Dyer

    What a response by Burton.

A beautiful move by the Brewers ends when Lloyd Dyer slots home Jackson Irvine's cross into the box for his fourth goal of the season.

The Pirelli Stadium went a little nuts there. We have a real game on our hands in East Staffordshire.

All I want for Christmas is to be top...

Well, as it stands a pretty special effort from Carlisle United's Shaun Brisley against Yeovil Town puts them top of the League Two heap!

There, however, is a lot of leapfrogging to be had in England's fourth tier, with Doncaster's 1-0 win over Grimsby in the early kick-off putting them top.

    Dwight Gayle

    Simple.

Perfect counter attack by Newcastle and Dwight Gayle has 17 for the season.

Matt Ritchie breaks down the wing, gets the better of John Mousinho and pulls it back to Gayle, who flicks the ball into the back of the net.

Burton had started well, but Newcastle have been very clinical.

    Fulham 0-0 Derby

Tom Cairney is a man that can cause some real damage in the Fulham midfield if you're not careful, and he comes close to giving the Whites the lead with an effort from outside the area that eeks just over.

    Sheffield Wednesday 0-0 Rotherham

BBC Sport's Seth Bennett at Hillsborough:

"It's been all Sheffield Wednesday in the opening 10 minutes of the game. Rotherham United are sititng so deep that Peter Odemwigie is almost playing as a central midfielder.

"That said, the Owls yet to make their possession count with a real quality chance."

No shots on goal yet at Craven Cottage but some nice neat build-up play from both sides, as you'd expect given the reputations they both have.

Also, the picture of Slavisa Jokovic walking past a Christmas tree at Craven Cottage at the top of this page is right up there with my favourite festive treats.

Burton 0-0 Newcastle, Wigan 0-1 Ipswich

Christian Atsu scored against Wigan in midweek, but finds Burton keeper Jon McLaughlin in fine form to deny him when through on goal.

Meanwhile, in the game that I said we'd be lucky to have a goal in, we have had a goal...

Ipswich have taken the lead at Wigan thanks to Brett Pitman's penalty. That's only his second of the season.

Since Neil Warnock came in, Cardiff's fortunes have certainly changed. They are outside the relegation places and now a goal up against Barnsley, after centre-back Sean Morrison turns in Peter Whittingham's corner.

    Saturday's EFL action

The teams are coming out up and down the country. Some places are much, much chillier than others, but what else do you expect in mid-December?

It's never going to be t-shirt and shorts weather, eh?
