    Huddersfield 0-0 Blackburn

Tommy Smith bursts down the right for the Terriers, but his cross has too much juice and goes out for a goal kick.

It may be sunny, but the wind is really whipping up inside the stadium. Not easy conditions to play attractive football.

    Huddersfield 0-0 Blackburn

Huddersfield are all over Blackburn here.

One team of course, full of confidence, the other - not so much.

    Huddersfield 0-0 Blackburn

Huddersfield are almost ahead inside 25 seconds!

Rajiv van La Parra fires a volley at goal, it's saved by Rovers keeper Jason Steele, who then saves again from Kasey Palmer's bicycle kick on the follow up.

    Great goalkeeping.

I said it's not foggy in West Yorkshire - it's actually bright sunshine at the moment!

    Huddersfield v Blackburn (12:30 GMT)

The players are making their way out at a thankfully non-foggy John Smith's Stadium.

Can the Terriers make it five league wins in a row and stretch Blackburn's miserable run?

    Kick-off is seconds away.

Meanwhile. it's still goalless between Mansfield and Doncaster in League Two after 15 minutes.

  6. Friday night recap - Part Twopublished at 12:28 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

Reading's match against Fulham was goalless after a first half in which the fog descended rapidly on the Madejski Stadium.

Much of the fog cleared during the interval and the second half looked set to take place. However, an announcement said that conditions outside the Madejski Stadium had deteriorated and the game had been abandoned.

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic told BBC Radio London afterward that the assistant referees could not see to the other side of the pitch, but BBC Berkshire commentator Tim Dellor branded the decision to abandon "ridiculous".

It's still fairly gloomy outside today, especially in the south of England, but no news of any problems yet.

  7. Friday night recap - Part Onepublished at 12:25 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

It's safe to say that last night's football action was... eventful.

First up, Championship leaders Brighton's home match against Cardiff was postponed before kick-off.

That gave Newcastle the chance to overtake the Seagulls with victory over Nottingham Forest, which Rafa Benitez's side duly took, thanks in no small part to two goals from Dwight Gayle.

Ipswich were the night's other winners, but there was fog-troversy in the fourth and final match of the evening...

  10. EFL action under waypublished at 12:17 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

League Two leaders Doncaster have just kicked off at Steve Evans' Mansfield.

And with that, the seven hours of EFL New Year's Eve football begins!

    Huddersfield v Blackburn (12:30 GMT)

It's not quite as gruesome as a Stephen King novel, but it's certainly been a season that will have brought a few sleepless night to Owen Coyle and Rovers fans so far.

Just five league wins all campaign and four defeats on the spin have left Blackburn in the relegation zone.

Throw into the mix fan walkouts and protests over the club's owners Venky's and 2017 surely can't come quick enough for the Lancashire side.

  12. Five in a row for the Terriers?published at 12:10 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Huddersfield v Blackburn (12:30 GMT)

The Championship has a bit of a reputation for throwing up a few surprises - but I'm not sure many would have predicted Huddersfield being in the play-offs heading into the new year.

Four wins on the bounce for David Wagner's side after a bit of a slump in November has moved them up to fifth and reignited their promotion push.

While Huddersfield's season is turning into something of a fairytale, the story of 2016-17 for today's visitors Blackburn is developing into a bit of a horror show...

  13. The rest of the day...published at 12:06 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

There are four Championship games at 15:00, six in League One and seven in League Two.

Two Championship sides in need of a win, Brentford and Norwich then see out 2016 at Griffin Park. That one kicks off at 17:30.

Confused? Yep, me too. But you can find the full fixture list here.

  14. The early starters...published at 12:03 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

The truncated festive and new year fixture list, means there is not a full EFL programme today and the kick-off times are all over the place!

But here's a snapshot of what's coming up before the 15:00 GMT kick-offs...

Mansfield and leaders Doncaster start at 12:15 in League Two, before Huddersfield and Blackburn get the Championship action under way 15 minutes later.

The 13:00 kick-offs see League One high-filers Sheffield United and Southend host Northampton and Charlton respectively, while Leyton Orient play Cambridge in League Two.

I'm not one for cliches, but where on earth has this year gone?

No matter how your team is faring, don't panic because the league is not decided at Christmas.

And if your side goes behind this afternoon, stay positive because football is a game of two halves.

Somehow, the final day of 2016 is upon us - but put the champagne on ice, keep hold of the party poppers and delay those new year's resolutions for a bit longer.

There is a feast of EFL football to get through first and we've got it covered right here!
