Very little action to report in Lancashire, isn't there Carlos?

There has only been one shot on target - Preston's Paul Gallagher striking straight at Keiren Westwood.

It looks like the players have started their New Year's celebrations already.

    Barnsley 2-1 Birmingham

How crucial could those saves prove to be?

Birmingham City go straight up the other end and Che Adams plays to Jacques Maghoma, who slots home to bring Blues back into the match.

Barnsley could have been out of sight. Now they're under pressure.

    Barnsley 2-0 Birmingham

It's almost 3-0 to Barnsley but the Tykes are kept out by three successive saves from Tomasz Kuszczak.

He saves well from Marley Watkins, then tips away from Sam Winnall and saves again from Ryan Kent.

Derby have goalkeeper Scott Carson to thank for keeping them in the game as he blocks Will Grigg on the counter attack.

Ikechi Anya then sets up Johnny Russell down the other end by he cannot find the net. Still goalless.

    Wolves 0-0 QPR

Wolves continue to dominate at Molineux but are struggling to create anything clear cut.

They've had six shots but only one on target - the effort from Bright Enobakhare which was saved by Alex Smithies' legs.

QPR haven't had a shot in the opening 30 minutes.

Notts County have scored their first goal in six home games and they're back level against Carlisle in League Two.

Jon Stead's header puts him into double figures for the season.

Meanwhile, Alan Sheehan's free-kick, his sixth goal in seven home games, has given Luton the lead against Barnet as they look to cement their play-off place.

Where were the Birmingham City defenders there?!

Conor Hourihane's corner finds Sam Winnall free in the area and he heads home his 11th goal of the season.

    Disastrous for Gianfranco Zola's Blues...

  8. goal

GOAL (Bradshaw)published at 15:28 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Barnsley 1-0 Birmingham

I said there was not much to shout about at Oakwell, but it's where the first Championship goal in the 15:00 GMT kick-offs has come.

Excellent work from Marley Watkins eventually finds Barnsley team-mate Tom Bradshaw, who finishes superbly into the far corner.

    Preston 0-0 Sheffield Wednesday

After a really scrappy start at Deepdale, Preston finally carve out a decent chance.

Callum Robinson cross in from the left, but Simon Makienok heads wide.

Still goalless midway through the first half, but the hosts are definitely on top.

In League Two, Colchester have scored more goals in their game than the rest of the league combined in the 3pm kick-offs.

They now lead Stevenage 2-0, the latest goal coming courtesy of Kurtis Guthrie's penalty.

There's not much really to shout about so far at Oakwell, as Ryan Shotton blocks a strike from Barnsley striker Sam Winnall.

  12. Postpublished at 15:23 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Wolves 0-0 QPR

The best chance of the game falls to Wolves' teenage striker Bright Enobakhare.

The 18-year-old races through on goal but QPR keeper Alex Smithies saves while one-on-one.

    It should be 1-0.

  14. Bolton deal first blowpublished at 15:20 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

There's been a goal in the crucial clash between Bolton and Scunthorpe, and it's gone to....Bolton.

And what a goal it was from Josh Vela. A brilliant half volley from 25 yards.

Elsewhere, Coventry City, who started the day one place off the bottom of the League One table and have lost their last seven league games, have scored a vital goal to lead Peterborough United 1-0. Jordan Willis with the strike in that one.

Warren Joyce's Wigan could be in front against play-off hopefuls Derby, but for a great save from Derby keeper Scott Carson.

A deep cross from Latics left-back Warnock finds the head of Michael Jacobs, and Carson tips it round the post.

Not a hectic start in League Two either, but Carlisle have got the first goal of the afternoon against Notts County.

And if scorelines all stay the same, which I'm sure they won't, they'll end 2016 on top of the tree.

High-flying Plymouth Argyle are also in action against Crawley Town, where it's goalless so far.
