There's 236 miles between Southampton and Liverpool but despite the distance there's been a fair bit of transfer movement between the two clubs.

Sadio Mane became the fifth Saints player to join Liverpool since 2014 when he made the trip north in June last year. It's a bit of a one-way street, although Mamadou Sakho has been linked with a move to Southampton.

If Liverpool were to sign another player from Southampton, who would Reds fans like it be? Southampton fans, if you could have one player back that was sold to Liverpool, who would you take?

The form of Sadio Mane, Phillipe Coutinho, Roberto Firminio and Adam Lallana may have pushed Daniel Sturridge down the pecking order, but Jurgen Klopp hasn't given up on him yet.

With Mane away on international duty with Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations, Klopp believes that Sturridge could have a big part to play in the second half of the season IF he stays fit.

"We have spoken a lot of times about this," said Klopp. "Does he stay fit? If Daniel is fit are there any arguments here ever about his quality? No.

"If he stays on this fitness level and improving as he always should, that is perfect – perfect news for him and for us that he can perform.

"It would be cool if we could speak like this for the next few weeks and months.”

Southampton make seven changes from their FA Cup draw at Norwich, as Maya Yoshida, Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Bertrand and Dusan Tadic are the only men to keep their place.

Saints XI: Forster; Soares, Yoshida, Van Dijk, Bertrand; Clasie, Davis, Romeu; Redmond, Rodriguez, Tadic

Daniel Sturridge starts in attack for Liverpool as boss Jurgen Klopp makes eight changes to the team he put out against Plymouth in the FA Cup at the weekend. Meanwhile, Philippe Coutinho is included in the matchday squad for the first time since 26 November after recovering from injury. He is named on the bench.

Liverpool XI: Karius, Clyne, Lovren, Klavan, Milner, Lucas, Can, Wijnaldum, Lallana, Firmino, Sturridge.

  6. Sturridge to shine at St Mary's once again?published at 18:57 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2017

It was at St Mary's back in December 2015 when Daniel Sturridge first really showed Jurgen Klopp what he can do.

The German was two months into his reign as Reds boss and watched on as Sturridge scored twice in a 6-1 win and send his side into the EFL Cup semi-finals.

Further injuries restricted his appearances for Liverpool after that game, while Klopp has developed a forward line that seemingly has no room for Sturridge.

Time appears to be against the England forward - he has made just six starts this season - but a return to St Mary's in the EFL Cup could be the catalyst he needs to prove his worth to Klopp once again...
