  1. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 35 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Rostov

For the second time this evening, Zlatan Ibrahimovic hits the post.

I say hit, he absolutely leathered this effort, the woodwork will be shaking into tomorrow.

The big Swede is set free into the area by Juan Mata, Ibrahimovic turns inside a defender but his shot across goalkeeper Nikita Medvedev is inches away from finding the back of the net.

Josh Earl:  All about patience here. No need to rush it, heading through as it stands. Rostov will have to come out eventually.

Mark Wilkins:  Not normally one for supporting United but they're pretty much our only hope if Euro glory this year! Come on....

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is so precise in possession, never wastes the ball and always finds a team-mate with his passes.

How United wish they could have signed him a few years ago.

The Swede has not been able to break the deadlock yet though.

Sam Hartles:  Blatant penalty! If Mkhitaryan pushed the goalkeeper like that it would be a free-kick. Double standards to say the least

Edward Taylor: How has the ref or the useless chap behind the goal not given a penalty for that? It was blatant.

Chelsea might not be in European competition this season but two of their players have scored tonight.

Defender Andreas Christensen, who is on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach, has put them 1-0 up against Schalke. Gladbach lead 2-1 on aggregate.

And Bertrand Traore has put his loan club Ajax 1-0 up against FC Copenhagen. They lead on away goals now (2-2 agg).

  6. CLOSE!published at 30 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Rostov

It has taken United half an hour to carve the best chance of the match.

It is slick play from the home side as Antonio Valencia plays the ball into Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who pops it off to Juan Mata.

The Spaniard plays a lovely through ball to Henrikh Mkhitaryan, through on goal, but the Armenian's 'Eric Cantona chip' goes wide of the far post.

  7. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 28 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Rostov

Shouts for a penalty for those inside Old Trafford.

The ball loops high into the Manchester sky above the Rostov penalty area and it is panic stations from the visitors.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan looks like getting his head onto it, but is given a push in the back by the goalkeeper Nikita Medvedev, who can then gather the ball.

    Referee Gediminas Madeika unmoved.

    Could have been given.

    Man Utd 0-0 Rostov

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been spraying the ball about today and plays another peach of a pass towards the back post, but Rostov defender Denis Terentyev has to react sharply to knock the ball to safety.

Might need to find a new role as a deep-lying midfielder for the Swede when he gets old.

Andy White:  Jose taking seriously a competition he dismissed when Rafa won it for Chelsea. Ironic to say the least.

Rashida:  Shocking!! Man Utd can't even fill Old Trafford these days. Still think Pogba is worth every penny Jose?

    Deary me.

Paul Pogba attempts a spectacular drive from way out, but gets it all wrong and the ball lands in someone's back garden in Salford.

Can we have our ball back?

Lyon led for a couple of minutes against Roma but it's all square on the night now.

Mouctar Diakhaby headed the French side into the lead but Kevin Strootman prodded home an immediate equaliser.

The French side lead 5-3 on aggregate.

76% possession for Manchester United, so far.

Paul Scholes-esque from Zlatan Ibrahimovic with a cross-field ball to Daley Blind.

The Dutchman clips a cross into the box towards Paul Pogba, but Rostov goalkeeper Nikita Medvedev shows confident handling to sprint off his line and catch the ball cleanly.

Takes the pressure off his defence.

There were three 18:00 GMT games, which have all ended now.

Ryan Babel scored his first two European goals since 2010 as 10-man  Besiktas beat Olympiakos 4-1 to progress 5-2 on aggregate. The Turkish side played 50 minutes a man down after the sending-off of Vincent Aboubakar, who had scored the opening goal.

Genk and  Gent drew 1-1 in the game between the Belgian sides you've probably confused in the past. Handily for *checks notes*, Genk (with a k), they won the first leg 5-2 so cruise through.

Celta Vigo, Spain's only remaining representatives, beat  Krasnodar 2-0 in Russia to progress 4-1 on aggregate.

Excellent long ball from Juan Mata to set Zlatan Ibrahimovic free.

The Swede is met on the edge of the box by goalkeeper Nikita Medvedev, who is in no man's land.

Ibrahimovic goes around him and attempts a left-footed strike at goal which goes away for a corner.

Marcos Rojo wins the set piece, but the ball sails out of play.

Goal imminent for the home side.

Two teasing crosses Antonio Valencia has played into the opposition area now, but on both occasions the Rostov defenders were equal to it.

The artillery is coming from down both flanks for the Russian side, they are having to take cover.

This time it is Aleksandr Erokhin, who trips in the area and is then caught on the head by team-mate Denis Terentyev.

No damage done though, Erokhin is OK to continue.
