  1. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:46 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2017

    Stoke City 1-0 Manchester United

The whistle. Manchester United are entitled to wonder how they are behind, but they have been wasteful. Stoke's defending has been heroic.

Xherdan Shaqiri, that is awful. A rare attack for Stoke, two on two, but Shaqiri can't play a simple ball to Peter Crouch. Aside from that, we've got neckache for twisting to see the Stoke end.

David Broome: Ibrahimovic has twice been free in the box to score but has stood around like a schoolboy who has lost his lunch money.

Fayaz Adam: United's finishing has been shocking all season. So many chances wasted and could easily be challenging for the title

Sho Rahman: Never seen a United side so un-clinical as this one. The amount of chances we miss is laughable.

And again! Paul Pogba's volley from a corner, reaction stuff from Lee Grant. Stoke begging for half-time.

United are knocking. Marouane Fellaini's volley tipped over by Lee Grant. I'd be surprised if United don't score in this game.

Stoke, by the way, haven't had a shot on target. I'll leave that one with you.

Momodu Abdulahi: Pogba needs to raise his game. With that size of transfer fee you are expected to perform in every game

Mark Taylor: Looks like it's going to be Juan of those days for United fans.

Robin Peckitt: I can't believe Man United sold Schneiderlin over Fellaini, then put him in that holding role. Disaster waiting to happen.

As an illustration, look at these average positions for United in the first half. Ibrahimovic, number nine, is rather isolated.

Why didn't he shoot? More space for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, only Lee Grant to beat. Instead, he looks to square the ball, only for it to be cut out by Bruno Martins Indi, who has been a one-man wall for Stoke so far.

    Stoke City 1-0 Manchester United

Zlatan Ibrahimovic doesn't do much, but what he does is effective. He's winning plenty of headers up top, and making chances, but not getting a great deal of support. He's entitled to wonder where help is coming from.

What. A. Miss. Zlatan Ibrahimovic finds space, rolling the ball across to Juan Mata, who has the net at his mercy, only to spoon the ball over the bar. He was under pressure from Bruno Martins Indi, but still. That's an own goal and a horror miss for Mata. Juan. Not the Juan that United fans want at the minute.

This is better from United, Juan Mata looking to conduct the orchestra in a bid to atone for his indiscretion at the other end. Juan, meet Bruno Martins Indi. He's the huge man that has just clattered you.

United haven't shown a great deal since the goal went in. Marouane Fellaini gets a header in, but it's a comfortable catch for Lee Grant in the Stoke goal.

Noise in the Potteries, Stoke buoyed by the opening goal. Marko Arnautovic is making a real nuisance of himself down the left. Jose Mourinho looks slightly bewildered.

It seems that the goal is definitely being credited as a Mata own goal. Bad news for my fantasy football team. I'll have to hope Pieters gets an assist...

    Erik Pieters (18 mins)

    Can you believe this?!?!

Stoke have the lead through left-back Erik Pieters. It may well go down as an own goal, Pieters' cross-come-shot taken past David de Gea by Juan Mata's touch. To be honest, that is against the run of play, Stoke had shown little until Pieters was released by Marko Arnautovic. Cat, meet pigeons.
