You can see Manolo Gabbiadini getting goals in the Premier League. He has a good pedigree from Serie A and seems to time his runs well.

James Ward-Prowse has a free-kick from a deep position. Instead of crossing, he goes for goal and nearly catches out Darren Randolph. But he manages to get a hand to it to push it out.

We are back under way. And there is a change to the Southampton side with Nathan Redmond coming on for Jay Rodriguez

This is how they stand in the other Premier League games. Not the best of days for Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce, at home against one of his former teams.

Despite Southampton taking the lead through Manolo Gabbiadini early on, that was cancelled out by Andy Carroll.

But Pedro Obiang, with his first ever goal for West Ham, puts them 2-1 up at half time.

Just before the break, James Ward-Prowse drew a fine save from Darren Randolph and there is the half-time whistle.

A very entertaining first half, and Southampton will wonder how they are behind at the break. But behind they are, advantage West Ham.

Southampton's Manolo Gabbiadini has got one goal on his debut, and comes close to a second but sees a glancing header drift wide of the post.

Andy Carroll has played nine times for England, but not since 2012. Is Gareth Southgate going to pick him?

Well, it is a long time before the next England game - 22 March to be precise - when they play a friendly in Germany.

Will the striker stay fit until then though? That has been the question throughout his career.

But Southampton attack and then West Ham do likewise. Sofiane Feghouli, this time on the left wing, swings in a low cross towards the back post, but Saints goalkeeper Fraser Forster does well to smother the ball before Andy Carroll can get there.

A half-chance for the Saints as Jay Rodriguez is in possession with the lively Manolo Gabbiadini bursting through the centre of the pitch. But both players are not on the same radar, Gabbiadini runs one way, the ball goes the other. Chance wasted.

So, what's been happening since the goals? In all honesty, not too much.

But, and I say this cautiously, I think there will be more goals in this one. Both teams are trying to push forward, and also, as was shown by the goals, look vulnerable at the back.

Just as I write that, Aaron Cresswell does well to keep a half-volley down, but it is easy for Saints goalkeeper Fraser Forster to fall on to the ball.

Three shots on target, two goals. Good strike rate.

Rich Carter: Gabbiadini scores within 10 mins of pulling on the shirt. Nice. But then Andy Carroll.. oh dear. it was always gonna happen.
