GOAL - Newcastle United 2-1 Birmingham Citypublished at 21:16 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    David Cotterill

Maybe it's not all over! Wales forward David Cotterill has looked Birmingham's most likely outlet and he slips home from about 10 yards out.

    Plymouth Argyle 0-1 Liverpool

If I was a Plymouth fan I think going out to a Lucas header would be hard to take. Liverpool do go close to a second though as Daniel Sturridge plays a one two with Ovie Ejaria and has a shot beaten away.

A commendable 13,517 have turned out at the 32,500-capacity St Mary's to watch this dross. Tickets only cost £12 for adults and a fiver for Under-16s, mind. Less than a family night out at your local spicy Portuguese chicken joint. I'd still be demanding a refund.

  4. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:13 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    Southampton 0-0 Norwich

Southampton send on Nathan Redmond in search of a goal, as Norwich have their best chance of the game. Josh Murphy does well on the left and puts over a lovely cross but Kyle Lafferty can't reach it.

  5. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:12 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    Plymouth Argyle 0-1 Liverpool

Philippe Coutinho has indeed gone off, and Harry Wilson is on to make his debut. Another youngster, he's a 19-year-old winger.

And he nearly scores straight away! He charges down a clearance from Luke McCormick and the ball ricochets over the top.

Philippe Coutinho has had a decent game, they don't want to risk any more injuries as he is only just back from one.

  7. Postpublished at 21:10 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    Southampton 0-0 Norwich

Southampton are trying to build up a head of steam now, Shane Long drags a shot wide and then gets on the end of a bouncing ball inside the area but can't hook an effort on target. The quality is massively lacking though.

  9. CLOSE!published at 21:09 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    Newcastle United 2-0 Birmingham City

Almost a third for Newcastle as first Matt Ritchie runs over the top and is cleared out by Adam Legzdins before Achraf Lazaar has a shot well blocked at the far post.

  10. 'Stuck in a rut'published at 21:07 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    Southampton 0-0 Norwich

    Steve Claridge
Ex-Leicester striker on BBC Radio 5 live Sports Extra

We are stuck in a real rut here. Nothing happening. No chances. No quality of play.

Southampton having the majority of play, not knowing what to do with it. Norwich sitting deep and Southampton not having quality to break them down. And Norwich have nothing up front with Kyle Lafferty isolated.

This is going to penalties. This IS going to penalties! Let's try the reverse of tempting fate here...

  12. Postpublished at 21:06 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    Plymouth Argyle 0-1 Liverpool

Plymouth are playing some really neat stuff now, they have abandoned their bus parking routine and are asking questions of Liverpool. Unfortunately for them, and as you'd expect from a team 67 places below the Reds, they are just losing it in the final third.

  13. 'Karius has to be stronger'published at 21:04 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    Plymouth Argyle 0-1 Liverpool

    John Hartson
Ex-Wales striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Plymouth have to make the most of their opportunities as they will not get too many.

I'm not too sure how much contact Garita makes with Karius. Karius has to be stronger in that position, he has to catch it or punch it and get it out of danger.

    Plymouth Argyle 0-1 Liverpool

Loris Karius! He drops a cross, routine looking catch and Arnold Garita almost smuggles the ball over the line! He's saved by the bell, well, the referee's whistle. But that was pretty unconvincing again from the German...

  15. 'Pleasure to watch'published at 21:00 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    Plymouth Argyle 0-1 Liverpool

The way Plymouth work when they lose the ball to make sure they get back behind it is a pleasure to watch.

  16. CLOSE!published at 21:00 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    Plymouth Argyle 0-1 Liverpool

Liverpool manage to find Daniel Sturridge in space but he shanks a volley wide on the stretch. He is a long way from his best. Will he still be at Anfield next season?

  17. Postpublished at 20:57 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    Southampton 0-0 Norwich

We could go to penalties tonight don't forget. And it looks that way on the south coast.

Norwich full-back Ivo Pinto comes to the rescue to clear from inside his own six-yard box after good work from Josh Sims.

  18. Postpublished at 20:56 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    Plymouth Argyle 0-1 Liverpool

Liverpool teenager Ben Woodburn beats two men on the edge of the area and stands up a cross but there's nobody there to finish at the far post.

  19. 'Liverpool want to put the game to bed'published at 20:53 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017

    Plymouth Argyle 0-1 Liverpool

    John Hartson
Ex-Wales striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Derek Adams will be wanting his players to get on the front foot and try and put more pressure on the Liverpool goalkeeper.

Liverpool won't want any chance of a heroic finish from Plymouth and will want to put the game to bed as soon as possible.

  20. KICK-OFFpublished at 20:52 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2017
