    Brighton 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday

The ball seems to have spent all of its time at the feet of a blue and white striped shirt at the start of this half.

No changes at the break for either side but Brighton have come out with some intent, it seems.

Promotion to the Premier League for Newcastle United and Brighton, play-off nerves for Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday, Derby and Reading, and relegation for Burton, Wigan and Rotherham.

These are the conclusions of SAM (Sports Analytics Machine), the super-computer built by Ian McHale, professor of sports analytics at the University of Salford, together with his colleague Dr Tarak Kharrat.

SAM was tasked with predicting the result of every Championship match between now and the end of the season on 7 May.

So, what did you make of that first 45 minutes at the Amex?

Is Anthony Knockaert the best player outside the Premier League? Will that late first-half goal revive Sheffield Wednesday?

A mixed game in many ways. Both teams started cagey and the moment it got a but more adventurous, you could see what they can do attacking wise. It's nicely poised.

  8. League One half-timepublished at 20:37 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2017

    Port Vale 2-1 Bury

Goals galore in the closing stages of the first half in League One, where Port Vale have a 2-1 lead over Bury.

James Vaughan, who scored four times for Bury six days ago, brought the visitors level after Tyler Walker's opener for Vale.

But Ryan Taylor's penalty just before the break has given the hosts a half-time lead.

  9. HALF-TIMEpublished at 45+5 mins

    Brighton 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Two goals but not the most exciting at the Amex for a top of the Championship fixture.

Anthony Knockaert's classy finish gave Brighton the lead before Lewis Dunk's own goal levelled it.

It's warmed up nicely without ever really breaking into a free-flowing spectacle.

    Brighton 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Daniel Pudil comes right through the back of Anthony Knockaert but there's no card, just a free-kick conceded by the Sheffield Wednesday defender.

And a few anxious moments for Brighton fans before Knockaert gets to his feet.

    Brighton 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday

There are going to be five minutes of injury time after that injury to Sheffield Wednesday right-back Jack Hunt which caused him to leave the field.

Easily enough time for another goal.

Fantastic link-up play and good running movement from Sheffield Wednesday.

It's a good ball and as Norwood's recovering, he gets too much on it. Dunk's reacting more than anything and he skims it into the far corner.

  13. goal

GOAL - Brighton 1-1 Sheffield Wednesdaypublished at 45 mins

    Lewis Dunk own goal

This is a brilliant example of how not to defend a cross, but credit Sheffield Wednesday for their build-up play.

Fernando Forestieri's cross with the outside of his right boot causes panic in the Brighton penalty area and it is flicked onto captain Lewis Dunk who tries to head clear, but can only turn into the net.

A great time to score for the Owls as we go into first-half injury time.

    Brighton 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday

Something seems to be in the air in Brighton tonight as there has been a real lack of tempo from both sides so far.

Most of the play has been at jogging, and at times walking, pace as they seem content to knock the ball around.

Tomer Hemed drills a shot wide for Brighton from just outside the area.

  15. Postpublished at 40 mins

    Brighton 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday

Brighton just taking the momentum out of the game, knocking it around the back and in midfield with not too many forward passes until it goes long.

They might not have been at their fluent best so far, but Chris Hughton's Brighton are looking immediately more confident with the way their moving the ball around.

A proper game of football is breaking out here.

A disappointing goal to concede from Sheffield Wednesday's point of view, but Brighton executed that brilliantly.

Knockaert's change of direction got him into the six-yard box and it's a lovely finish.

  18. goal

    Anthony Knockaert

A quick, incisive and clinical counter-attack by Brighton.

Tomer Hemed's through ball finds Anthony Knockaert whose first touch looks heavy, but he does enough to round the keeper and then compose himself to finish with covering defenders on the line.

The game's best player has a goal just as Sheffield Wednesday were growing into the match.

Brighton are heading top of the Championship as it stands.

    Brighton 0-0 Sheffield Wednesday

The physios and medical team took a good five minutes preparing Jack Hunt before being able to carry him off, his leg heavily wrapped up.

We're going to have quite a few minutes of injury time after the first 45 here.

It did look like an impact injury, rather than one on landing. Hopefully it will just be a severe knock.
