I have no issue with giving young players chances, but don't throw them in when you're making 10 changes.

You have to drip feed them in alongside experience and quality, because at the moment these Southampton players are rabbits in the headlights.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's knocked some really lovely passes about today but this free-kick from deep is too high and long for the row of yellow shirts lined up on the edge of the box.

An easy claim for young keeper Harry Lewis. He's been beaten by three shots, true, but in truth there wasn't an awful lot he could have done better with any of them.

Three shots on target, three goals. Clinical stuff from Arsenal.

    More goals to come?

Southampton have rarely ventured into the Arsenal half as their heatmap (left graphic) shows. They've had just four touches of the ball inside their opponents box, compared to 12 for Arsenal, who are pressing all over the pitch - as their heatmap (graphic on the right) highlights.

Patient stuff from Arsenal with 16 passes in the build-up to that wonderfully taken first goal by Danny Welbeck. Southampton are letting the Gunners press high up the pitch and were punished as a result.

We said from the beginning that Arsenal have some strong players, they look much better going forward. Southampton have offered very little.

It's young men versus young boys at the moment.

Not a single one of Southampton's young players has done anything to suggest that they're ready for the first team.

Arsenal have punctured Southampton's feelgood factor ruthlessly here. The atmosphere, jubilant Arsenal fans apart, is like a testimonial game.

All very relaxing for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger as he sits in the start starting the first game in a four-match touchline ban for pushing fourth official Anthony Taylor during the 2-1 win against Burnley at The Emirates.

    Argh! Was this the moment?

Kieran Gibb's dathers and is robbed by Cuco Martina, who lays it across goal to Josh Sims.

But the 19-year-old winger's touch is poor. As he looks to turn away from goal and into the space the ball cuts loose and the chance, gone.

Jeff Reine-Adelaide exits from another midfield 50-50 with the ball at his feet and strides up the park looking for an option.

But while Arsenal were going for the jugular about 15 minutes ago they now seem happy to soak up the rest of this opening period.

TWO minutes of time added on.

Garreth Frank: Given his performance today, Cazorla's absence and our plethora of wide options, the Ox should start more games in the middle.

Johnny Magrinho:  Now that Welbeck & Theo are fit & scoring does that mean I have to take Giroud out my Fantasy team? Already made two subs this week!

Just THREE minutes until the break. Apart from that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg volley and the later free-kick, we've not seen an awful lot from Southampton. Arsenal have been irresistible at times.

But how many times have we said that only for them to, shall we say, complicate things.

What are Southampton's priorities this season? Surely another cup run would be fantastic?

Obviously the League Cup final is massive, but they aren't going to be relegated, and they're not getting into the Champions League.

David Ospina with a fantastic claim, he plucks the ball out of the air travelling at full tilt. Helter-skelter off his line.

Shane Long is challenging and Ospina takes a knock, in the back it looks like. The physio's on making sure the Colombian keeper is OK. He's fine to carry on.
