Danny Williams should have put Reading ahead after great work from Garath McCleary, who got to the byline and pulled the ball back to the American.

Williams decided he should take a touch rather than fire it goalwards first-time, and the chance goes begging.

Meanwhile, Cardiff's Joe Ralls has hit the post with a shot from the edge of the box.

It's fair to say, Southend boss Phil Brown might have wondered for thinking just that. Taxis to the ground, Anton Ferdinand pulling up in the warm-up... Still, the Shrimpers have weathered the on-field storm at Fleetwood so far.

Not much else going on goal-wise across the bottom two divisions... oh, but Bolton have taken the lead against Charlton with a free-kick from another Clough - Zach this time. It's 1-0 at the Macron Stadium.

Dave Jones' time in charge of Hartlepool United hasn't started as he might have liked, with ex-Pools loanee Ryan Bird putting Newport in front in League Two. On his debut, too.

And, of course, Steven Schumacher's opener for Stevenage got them off the grid quickly enough... used to seeing that surname in pole position. Sorry, couldn't resist.

After a quiet opening 10 minutes across the EFL, we've got ourselves a few goals.

This latest one, from Tom Lawrence, is a real thing of beauty too - the midfielder cutting inside from the left and firing into the top corner to put Ipswich 1-0 up at Preston.

"They've made an approach and the Burton chairman has allowed the gaffer to speak to Forest."

When asked if he had been able to gauge Clough's interest in the job, Garner simply replied "no".
