    Blackburn 0-0 Leeds

It's been a bright start at Ewood Park, where Blackburn have the ball in the Leeds net - but it's rulled out because of a clear foul on goalkeeper Rob Green.

Leeds are fourth heading into tonight's match, four points shy of Reading in third.

WHAT, say WHAT? Yes, I hear ya!

That was quick. My word. With the first foray forward, the ball is switched hopefully from right to left.

And, with what can only be described as a half clearance by QPR's defence, Jonjo Shelvey finds himself on the ball and he rifles in low and hard. Alex Smithies was reaching for shadows.

The count on that goal, by the way, was 37 seconds.

    Blackburn v Leeds (19:45 GMT)

Blackburn, through to the fifth round of the FA Cup, last won in the Championship against high-flyers Newcastle. Great.

Problem is the relegation-threatened side have failed to win in the league since overcoming the Magpies on 2 January. They are second from bottom in the table and three points from safety.

Leeds have lost just one of their past eight Championship games, however, they were among the clubs rattled in the FA Cup at the weekend as they went out to non-league Sutton United.

Leeds have already beaten Blackburn twice this season, at home in the league on 13 September, before knocking them out of the EFL Cup seven days later.

    Burton v Fulham (19:45 GMT)

Burton Albion are always on the hunt for firsts, as this is their maiden season in England's second-tier competition.

After beating QPR at Loftus Road at the weekend - a first for them - the 21st-placed Brewers are now looking to win back-to-back Championship games for the first time EVER.

Victory for Fulham would lift them to ninth in the table, within two places and three points of the play-off spots.

They are looking for their fourth win from six games, having beaten Premier League side Hull City 4-1 in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.

    Newcastle v QPR (19:45 GMT)

Three successive wins, second in the table, capable of going top with another league win... ah, to be Newcastle United.

Well, that was very much the case UNTIL being dumped out of the FA Cup by a side 35 places below them in the English Football League ladder.

The Magpies will have some bouncing back to do after Saturday's 3-0 defeat by League One side Oxford.

Meanwhile, QPR will be looking for their third consecutive away win. They hit the road after two winless games at Loftus Road, culminating with a defeat by relegation-threatened Burton Albion last time out.

Now, time for a scene setter...

When the word pummelled is used in the top line of a match report, you just know something serious went down.

QPR were beaten 6-0 at Loftus Road on 13 September 2016 - their heaviest ever home defeat.

For Newcastle, it was their biggest league win away from home for more than half a century.

    Reflect on it here.

  14. What's to come...published at 19:05 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2017

Tonight's feature match will see Ian Holloway's Queens Park Rangers side at St James' Park to take on second-placed Newcastle United.

It is one of three Championship fixtures, with second-from-bottom Blackburn Rovers hosting a Leeds United side that are 19 places above them and in the play-off spots.

Nigel Clough is still the man at Burton Albion's helm as they host Fulham, with the Brewers boss turning down the chance to take the vacant manager's job at Nottingham Forest.

And, in League One, there is just the one match as Millwall host Walsall just three days after the Lions knocked Premier League side Watford out of the FA Cup.

All fixtures kick-off at 19:45 GMT.

  15. Deadline day hangover...published at 19:00

It is the day after the night before and eyes are back on the English Football League.

In Premier League terms it was a tame transfer deadline day, but in the three leagues below there was a torrent of late movement!

Championship high-flyers Newcastle United, in action tonight, didn't come up with any big names, but their opponents Queens Park Rangers got a few tasty deals over the line - including the acquisition of Ravel Morrison from Italian side Lazio.

While comings and goings went some way towards overshadowing on field action 24 hours ago, there are a few intriguing hours of football to look forward to now.
