Huddersfield were deserved winners against Championship leaders Brighton, and there's more EFL action on the way tomorrow when struggling Wigan host promotion-chasing Sheffield Wednesday.

The Latics had a busy deadline day, bringing in eight new signings, while Wednesday signed Middlesbrough striker Jordan Rhodes on loan to boost their push for the Premier League.

"The boys did fantastic," Terriers manager David Wagner told Sky Sports. "We must have been uncomfortable to play against. "We played with high speed, high tempo, on the front foot and were brave enough to be in their face.

"We totally deserved the result. Brighton have only conceded 18 goals and are top of the league. But what makes me proud is the style with which we scored our goals."

Huddersfield's key performers were delighted to extend their current buoyant run to just one defeat in 12 games - as they did to Brighton what the Seagulls had done to the then unbeaten Terriers in September.

"To beat the team at the top of the league was an excellent performance by the boys," said Izzy Brown, who went off with an injury after the Lewis Dunk tackle which reduced Brighton to 10 men.

"I don't know if it was a bad tackle," he told Sky Sports. "We both went in for the ball. It happens in football."

Striker Nahki Wells, who scored his 100th career goal, added: "Everyone chipped in. I'm happy with the finish but more happy with the result. Now we go again in three days against our local rivals Leeds."

It's all over. Huddersfield win 3-1 and thoroughly deserve the three points against an off-colour Brighton.

David Stockdale makes another fine save, going full length to his right to turn aside Kasey Palmer's fierce shot.

The Brighton keeper has been comfortably their best player tonight. But for his string of fine saves, the Seagulls would have been even more badly beaten.

Andy Mac: Don't get me wrong, we all love Hughton but did he really need to play nine reserves against Lincoln with a Thursday night match afterwards?

Still Huddersfield dominate. After Aaron Mooy rattles one against the woodwork, David Wagner goes for his third and final substitution, bringing on his new signing, Union Berlin striker Collin Quaner.

Joe Lolley's first introduction brings a mazy dribble, ended crudely by Oliver Norwood, who becomes Brighton's fourth yellow card of the night.

Rajiv van La Parra will not be able to believe that he has not scored tonight, having gone as close as anyone for Huddersfield, but he is off and Joe Lolley comes on.

Brighton cannot have suffered a battering like this in a while.

They have so far managed just two shots to the Terriers' 17, only one of which has been on target, their goal.

Huddersfield have had seven on target, are ahead on corners 8-2 and are still enjoying the lion's share of possession (67%). 

But tormentor in chief Izzy Brown's night is over, following that challenge by Dunk. He is off, replaced by Kasey Palmer.

Lewis Dunk's second mistimed tackle of the night on Izzy Brown proves costly.

Just like the first, it earns the Brighton defender a yellow card from referee James Linnington. It took an awful lot of thought from the official. But two yellows adds up to an early bath for Dunk.

Brighton's already uphill battle is made a lot tougher.

A bit of news that's just broken in the last few minutes - Jez Moxey has resigned from his role as chief executive of Norwich City. He's been at Carrow Road for less than six months after 16 years in the same position at Wolves.

Victory for Huddersfield tonight would not help them them climb up the table but it would put them within two points of fourth-placed Leeds and three of third-placed Reading - and with a game in hand on both. And, as things stand in this one, it looks rather likely. Nahki Wells is the next one to go close, his left-foot shot sliding just past the right post.

Izzy Brown this time goes close for Huddersfield in a scramble, denied only by a brave block from Shane Duffy, who takes the on-loan Chelsea midfielder's full-blooded shot in the midriff.

Rajiv van La Parra is then denied again by David Stockdale at his near post.

Andrew Dennett: It's not the defence, it's the lack of midfield protection. Dale Stephens is a big miss.

Brian: First Huddersfield goal had two hints of offside in the build-up.

After going so close in the first half, it's Rajiv van La Parra who has the first meaningful effort of the second half too, curling a right-foot shot just wide. Harks back to his days at Molineux. He often performed well in a gold and black shirt when Wolves were live on TV too.

Brighton have made a half-time change - the experienced Steve Sidwell is on for Beram Kayal in midfield.
