Coming on top of losing at Preston, then Saturday's FA Cup slip-up with a much-weakened side at Lincoln, Brighton are now staring at a third straight away defeat. They have been pretty much outplayed by David Wagner's rampant Terriers, who could actually have been ahead by more.

As well as enjoying 72 per cent possession, Huddersfield have made the most of it. Rajiv van La Parra could have had a hat-trick, hitting the post, having one blocked and also being denied by David Stockdale.

Brighton's goal, by contrast, came from a bad error. And Chris Hughton's men have hardly looked like scoring since.

The last time they let in more than three in a game was a 4-1 defeat at Cardiff almost a year ago. But it's hard to imagine they won't concede again tonight with Huddersfield playing like this.

Huddersfield with what could be a decisive goal in first-half stoppage time.

A break down the Terriers' left sees Nahki Wells send in a shot which David Stockdale can't handle and Elias Kachunga nods the rebound into an empty net.

The Championship leaders with work to do now. It's the first time they've conceded three goals in a league game all season, and also the first time that Huddersfield have netted three times in the same Championship match.

    Nahki Wells

A fifth goal in nine games for Nahki Wells - only his eighth of the season but the former Bradford City man's 100th in English football as he crashes home a right-foot shot on the angle from 20 yards.

    Huddersfield 1-1 Brighton

Great strike from van La Parra, superbly saved by Stockdale, low to his right. A save made even better by the fact that it took a deflection off the boot of Glenn Murray, stood just in front of him. Van La Parra has so far done everything but score.

    Tomer Hemed

    Huddersfield 1-0 Brighton

Rare chance for Brighton to relieve the home pressure with a foray upfield involving Anthony Knockaert. But the Terriers have so far had 77 per cent of possession and, more pertinently, actually look like doing something with it.

    Tommy Smith

    Tommy SmithImage source, PA

Tommy Smith sends the home fans into delirium as he cuts in from the right, cashes in on a failed clearance attempt by Sebastian Pocognoli, who can only block it back into his path, and curls his left-foot shot inside David Stockdale's right post. It is only the 24-year-old right-back's second league goal for the club - on his 126th appearance. And, of the three career goals he has scored, this is his first in front of the home fans.

  17. Postpublished at 6 mins

    Chris HughtonImage source, PA

Brighton boss Chris Hughton might be looking down at the rest of the division, but he is under no illusions at the threat posed by David Wagner's Terriers tonight.

"You could see them building from last season, the manager went in and certainly instilled his philosophy of how he wants the team to play," Hughton told BBC Sport.

"They started the season well, had a little dip but then showed the character in the team to come again. They have got a very good squad and way of playing. I certainly expect them to be right up there come the end of the season."
