Huddersfield have taken 29 points from a possible 39 at home this season.

Chuba Akpom, who joined Brighton on loan from Arsenal earlier this week, is on the bench for the Seagulls this evening.

He has to kick-start his career. He's been around players who know promotion. He's big and quick and knows where the back of the net is. I've been banging on about him for ages and I think he's the missing cog.

Ben Smith: Shout out to the 200+ Brighton fans who have had to abandon their trip to Huddersfield due to M23 closure.

The motorway was closed in both directions earlier today while repairs were carried out. I'll do my best to keep those unfortunate Brighton fans up to date with events in West Yorkshire.

  4. Successive away defeats for Seagullspublished at 19:35 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2017

Huddersfield have lost just twice at home this season, while Brighton have only lost twice away in the Championship.

But the most recent of those was against Preston at Deepdale on 14 January. And, coupled with their FA Cup fourth-round exit at non-league Lincoln last weekend, they go into tonight's game looking to avoid a run of three straight away defeats.

  5. Brighton's danger man?published at 19:32 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2017

    Anthony KnockaertImage source, Rex Features

It's an impressive record that French winger Anthony Knockaert has in league matches against Huddersfield.

Four of those goals came for Leicester in the 2012-13 season, while he also scored the only goal in a 1-0 win for Brighton against the Terriers in September.

    Huddersfield v Brighton (19:45 GMT)

When these two teams met at the Amex in September, Huddersfield were the Championship leaders, only for Anthony Knockaert's deflected, late goal for the Albion to hand the Terriers their first league defeat of the season.

It proved to be the first of a run of six defeats in 12 league games for David Wagner's men, but they have turned the corner again since and are now on a run of just one loss in 11 league and cup games.

  11. No Stephens for Brightonpublished at 19:20 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2017

    Huddersfield v Brighton (19:45 GMT)

Brighton midfielder Dale Stephens misses tonight's game with injury. Could he be a key absentee for the Seagulls?

    Quote Message

It's a big blow and I think Kayal and Stephens are the best two (central midfielders) we have. I would like Norwood to push up.

  13. Both teams make nine changespublished at 19:19 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2017

    Huddersfield v Brighton (19:45 GMT)

Huddersfield have made nine changes to their starting line-up from Saturday's 4-0 FA Cup fourth-round win at Rochdale. The only two survivors are Izzy Brown and Elias Kachunga.

But Brighton have adopted pretty much the same selection policy. The only two players in their starting XI who also started in Saturday's FA Cup exit at non-league Lincoln are Glenn Murray and Oliver Norwood.

  14. Brighton looking for daylight at toppublished at 19:17 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2017

    Huddersfield v Brighton (19:45 GMT)

With 89 minutes gone at St James' Park last night and Newcastle leading 2-1, it looked as if Brighton would be starting tonight back in second place in the Championship.

But Ciaran Clark's last-minute own goal against QPR, depriving Newcastle of all three points, kept the Seagulls on top and now gives them the chance to put a daylight between themselves and the Toon.

Victory against fifth-placed Huddersfield would send Chris Hughton's side four points clear with 18 games to go.

    John Smith's StadiumImage source, PA

It's been a pretty horrible, wet, windy miserable day throughout the country. But hopefully in West Yorkshire tonight we may have a sporting contest to lighten the gloom.

The always exciting sight of the iconic John Smith's Stadium lit up before a night match, coupled with the fact that fifth-placed Huddersfield tonight host the Championship leaders Brighton, offers a lot of promise.
