Derby County boss Steve McClaren told BBC Radio Derby he "could not believe" his side lost to Aston Villa.

The Rams fell to a 1-0 defeat at Villa Park but McClaren felt his side were denied a clear penalty when Darren Bent went down in the area in the first half.

"We deserved something and I can't believe we've lost but if you don't score goals you don't win games," he said.

"I'm hugely disappointed and I can't believe we didn't get a penalty. I've seen it again and it was stonewall.

"The referee told me he wasn't 100% sure but it's cost us the game."

    Brighton 0-0 Reading

Antoher long passing move breaks down for Reading, as Garath McCleary fails to find overlapping right-back Chris Gunter with a through ball.

The visitors have had more than 60% of the ball in the opening stages, but none of it has been in threatening areas.

  3. CLOSE!published at 8 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Reading

From their second corner of the game, Brighton defender Shane Duffy sends a header wide.

The Irishman climbed high at the back post to beat compatriot Paul McShane to the ball, but couldn't direct his effort goalwards.

After weathering early Brighton pressure, Reading have enjoyed their first good spell of possession.

The Royals work the ball well, but pressing from Brighton forces them back to defence and win it back when the visitors try and find striker Yann Kermorgant with a long ball.

  5. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Reading

Brighton playmaker Anthony Knockaert gets on the ball for the first time and dribbles into the box, beating Royals left-back Tyler Blackett, but the Frenchman is wayward with his shot on goal.

  6. Postpublished at 2 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Reading

Brighton get an early corner, as returning Reading defender Paul McShane heads a free-kick behind.

Albion take it short, but it comes to nothing as the eventual cross from the left is over-hit.

Simeon Ayling: Thought a Brighton win over Reading would be vital, now thinking it would be just gravy. But Reading are capable of getting something.

Lee Cooper: Results gone with us so far today. Feels like the next two games are season defining.

Think you might be right, Lee. It's Reading today, followed by Newcastle at home for Brighton on Tuesday.

  10. Stam warns of Royals taskpublished at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2017

    Brighton v Reading (17:30 GMT)

Reading saw their six-match unbeaten run in the Championship ended at Huddersfield in midweek.

However, Jaap Stam's side have the opportunity to move five points behind Brighton, and reclaim fourth place, if they win at the Amex Stadium this evening.

The Royals have only lost one of their last 13 league meetings with the Seagulls stretching back to 2004, but the Dutchman is well aware of the task in front of them.

    Brighton v Reading (17:30 GMT)

Second-placed Brighton are looking to go back to the top of the Championship after Newcastle drew 2-2 against Bristol City earlier this afternoon.

The Seagulls have lost just once at home in the league this season, to Brentford back in September, and are unbeaten in their last four Championship games.

Chris Hughton's side could move six points clear of third-placed Huddersfield with victory but Hughton remains wary of the chasing pack.

Colchester move into the play-off places courtesy of a 2-1 win at home to Hartlepool.

Cheltenham have gone six points clear of the relegation zone as they won 1-0 at struggling Leyton Orient, with visiting keeper Scott Brown saving a second-half penalty.

  16. Ripley saves the day for Oldhampublished at 17:03 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2017

    FT: Oldham 0-0 Millwall

What an afternoon for Oldham goalkeeper Connor Ripley.

He preserved a clean sheet and guaranteed a point for the Latics at home to play-off chasing Millwall with not one, but TWO penalty saves late on.

First he got down low to save Lee Gregory's 89th-minute effort and then he denied Gregory again in the 95th minute after Michael Ngoo was punished for a handball.

That guarantees him the man of the match award, we think.
