  1. CLOSE!published at 39 mins

    Burnley 0-0 Lincoln

The first bit of Premier League quality! Great play on the right by Tendayi Darikwa, who dances past his full-back twice and then stands up a nice cross to the far post, it's headed out and Joey Barton connects with a stinging volley that is unfortunately for him straight at Paul Farman.

There's a half-hearted penalty appeal waved away from Lincoln as Jack Muldoon wrestles with a defender, while Burnley want a foul for the original header by Matt Rhead.

Sean Dyche will be a little more heartened with the last five minutes.

A few gaps are starting to open in the Lincoln back line which will really excite Sam Vokes and Andre Gray.

They have been quiet with just one chance between them.

Lincoln boss Danny Cowley is ranting at the fourth official, not sure what has got into him. Overall he must be delighted with his team though. To paraphrase a cliche you couldn't be sure which team was 81 places higher than the other on the footballing ladder.

    Burnley 0-0 Lincoln

Lincoln keeper Paul Farman is a bit slow to come off his line and collect a ball forwards, hesitation which could be costly but Sam Vokes can only head wide under pressure. A sense that the hosts are starting to turn the screw.

Lincoln are looking the more dangerous side.

They would have thought they'd have less of the ball today but in a lot of areas they are shading it, even possession.

    Burnley 0-0 Lincoln

A spot of Imps pressure sees Bradley Wood whip a cross in, but there's Michael Keane in place to smash clear.

And now Burnley's first real chance, Scott Arfield around the corner for Andre Gray to run onto, he slashes at it, left-footed but it's straight at Paul Farman.

That's the first shot on target.

    Burnley 0-0 Lincoln

That early Lincoln chance aside, this has been a pretty poor first quarter. The game perhaps needed the underdogs to go ahead. They still may of course, as Jack Muldoon charges through the middle - but it's shut down.

That Alan Power tackle has done for Icelandic winger Johann Gudmundsson, he's had to hobble off and George Boyd comes on. He's played in an FA Cup final for Hull.

    Burnley 0-0 Lincoln

A Conference challenge in midfield from Alan Power leaves Johann Gudmundsson in a heap and leaves Power in the book. A spot of nominative determinism in action there.

Sam Vokes then catches the loose ball from the following free-kick but blazes well over the top. A half chance.

Some penalty area jostling at the corner goes Burnley's way. James Tarkowski, on a rare start for the Clarets, knows he is in a game. Interestingly, with all the chat of Michael Keane going for big money, a BBC Sport colleague who supports Burnley rates Tarkowski as the club's best defender.

The best two pieces of play in this game so far have been by Lincoln.

They can play back to front and are quite comfortable at doing that.

The home fans are roused into voice, it's been a slightly subdued opening from the Premier League side. They are perhaps not used to starting a game as heavy favourites.

    Burnley 0-0 Lincoln

Massive Matt Rhead leaves two Burnley defenders in a heap on halfway, welcome to the jungle time. No action needed from the referee though on this occasion.

Burnley then ping a great ball in but it's well defended.

Will Lincoln get a better chance than that to score? A massive moment in the tie. Burnley now attack with some fluency as Michael Keane pings a ball out to Scott Arfield.

Keane has been linked with a return to Manchester United, which would be a gift for headline writers everywhere.

That was a piece of pure class from Arnold.

Most lower league players would have had a lash at it but he held the ball up, beat his man and found the player and it was just a shame Muldoon snatched at it.

    He had more time.

Great chance for Lincoln City! You've got to take those. A ball forwards is not dealt with by this new-look Clarets defence, Nathan Arnold turns inside his man and finds Jack Muldoon bursting into the area on his left. It's coming at him lively, and he's under pressure, but he should still do better than sidefoot wildly over.
