Ashley Young darts down the right as Manchester United look to strike an early blow in this half, but hits his cross to close to Jason Steele.

Moments later, Craig Conway shoots through Marcos Rojo's legs for the hosts but Sergio Romero has it covered.

Given Manchester United's already congested fixture list, Jose Mourinho will want this tie done and dusted tonight. 

An additional fixture will also not be ideal for Blackburn as they work to climb out of the Championship relegation zone.

Manchester United bossing the possession stats but have had as many shots on target as Blackburn with two. 

Jose Mourinho, though, does have a couple of game changers to turn to on his bench. Juan Mata, Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are not a bad trio of players to throw on if needed.

Agubata Odinaka: if Carrick wasn't playing, people over here would have been calling for his inclusion. He's been pretty anonymous like everyone else

An intriguing game. Both goals were good enough to win any game at any level. We haven't seen an outstanding spell from Manchester United.

Blackburn boss Owen Coyle will be delighted at half time.

As things stand, both these teams will be in the quarter-final draw which takes place at around 18:30 GMT tonight.

Chance for Manchester United just before the break as Michael Carrick's crossfield pass finds Ashley Young charging down the right wing. The fullback crosses and Jesse Lingard glances a header just wide of the far post.

The 45 minutes are up and we're going to have three minutes of time added on.

This has been a very decent first half performance by Blackburn. They've defended well for the most part and have attacked with pace and power. They are perhaps a tad unlucky to just have the one goal to show for it.

Half-time is approaching with Blackburn now on the front foot. Charlie Mulgrew's drive from distance is deflected behind by Ander Herrera to give the hosts their first corner, but Manchester United clear.

If Manchester United keep winning they will have a fixture pile-up but if someone asked you at the start of the season if you wanted to play in three cup finals of course you say yes.

We had a season at Liverpool where we played 66 games and there were four or five players who played in them all. But you are never tired if you keep winning.

Chance for Blackburn just before the break as Craig Conway is picked out by Charlie Mulgrew's brilliant ball but Ashley Young slides in just as Conway shoots and the ball balloons over the bar.

Awful free-kick by Ander Herrera. He hits it low and Danny Guthrie snuffs it out before charging up the pitch. Suddenly it is four against three but Guthrie doesn't release the ball quick enough and he hasn't got the pace to avoid the chasing pack catching up and swarming him. Chance gone.

Manchester United are starting to build up a head of steam now and they get a free-kick on the right side of the box as Ashley Young is brought to the ground by Derrick Williams, who gets booked as a result.

What's Jesse Lingard's thought process here? He smashes the ball out of play down the right. There were no red shirts ahead of him, so not sure who he was trying to pick out. Lingard walks away sheepishly looking at the ground.

Play is halted as Marvin Emnes goes down clutching the back of his head after challenging Chris Smalling for the ball. 

Emnes looks OK as he eventually gets back up, clutching the back of his neck.
