    Sunderland 0-0 Burnley

Seb Larsson's delivery is looped towards goal by a Sunderland head and easily plucked from the air by Tom Heaton. That's his first touch of the ball I reckon.

Ben Mee has had to change his shirt and shorts - covered in blood I assume, although I didn't see any. He's back on now, the Burnley centre-back.

    Sunderland 0-0 Burnley

Free-kick Sunderland as Adnan Januzaj is hauled down by Jeff Hendrick - it's a bit of a flashpoint.

Burnley defender Ben Mee was down - he caught what looked like an accidental elbow from Fabio Borini in the face - but the home side played on.

Mee really caught that square in the chops. He's hurt and is getting treatment but should be OK to carry on.

Fabio Borini gives it a thumbs up but John O'Shea's spray down the line was hit far too long.

Very short on quality so far, David Moyes' side. They're bottom of the table and are playing like it.

  4. YELLOW CARDpublished at 23 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Burnley

It's been all Burnley, but the home side finally get clear of the halfway line as Joey Barton hacks down Adnan Januzaj. Yellow card for the midfield man.

    Sunderland 0-0 Burnley

Burnley corner. Their second in the past three minutes. And it comes from a Jordan Pickford poor clearance - he was looking to play it quickly but hit it straight to an opposition shirt.

Sunderland clear their lines, but only so far, and have to concede yet another corner.

That's finally prodded clear, but only after George Boyd has a very vocal penalty shout turned down - he thought his shot hit a Sunderland hand, but the ref says no.

    Sunderland 0-0 Burnley

Scott Arfield with his second free-kick of the day already, bending one comfortably wide of Jordan Pickford's left-hand post.

It was the perfect position for a leftie, but he couldn't make the keeper work.

A few groans around the stands as John O'Shea clears another Burnley ball forward into touch. The home side have given their supporters very little to cheer so far.

There are some Sunderland players with quality but they are not showing it on a regular basis and that's what frustrates the fans. I think even the fans are now believing they won't stay up.

Unfortunately I do believe Sunderland will come to the end of the luck that they have had over the last few seasons. They have had a few decent players in the squad who have stood up and counted, Jermain Defoe being one of them.

I just don't see how they will get out of this mess.

    Sunderland 0-0 Burnley

Burnley are growing into this strongly. Joey Barton tidying everything up in midfield, Sunderland wasteful with possession through a couple of poorly-aimed long balls.

And the Clarets have had the game's best chances. George Boyd really should have done better with that last one.

    Concern for David Moyes.

  10. CHANCE!published at 12 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Burnley

Best chance of the match so far. It's a low cut-back from the left wing that's begging for George Boyd to steam in and smash home first-time, but he fluffs his shot altogether.

Jason Denayer is on hand to clear again but really Jordan Pickford should have been tested.

Nice from Seb Larsson to skip past his marker and into space for a shot that is blocked on the edge of the box, it falls to Jack Rodwell, who slices one from range. Wide and wasteful.

    Danger on the counter.

Jermain Defoe gets his first real involvement, looking to cut back into the box, but Burnley clear and in three passes get a sight on goal as George Boyd seeks to break through the lines.

Jason Denayer does well to follow and slide in to clear the danger.

    Sunderland 0-0 Burnley

John O'Shea is already barking out the orders to his Sunderland men, because it's Burnley with all the early going. A very bright start from a side still looking for the first away win of the season.

The Black Cats now with their first bite in the final third, but it's wasted as Billy Jones catches Steven Ward with a late stud.

Jason Denayer is penalised for a foul on Andre Gray, here's Scott Arfield to bend in an early Burnley free-kick from wide right...

Very well cleared by a brave Sunderland head, that was an excellent looping delivery.

Sunderland captain John O'Shea:  "We know the games are running out for us so today's a big one. We have had some tough matches against Burnley already this season. All our home games are big now. There are 11 games to go in total and hopefully we can get a win today."

    Burnley

Burnley manager Sean Dyche:  "A lot of performances away from home were way off the mark earlier in the season, but that's not been the case in the main recently.

"The performance against Liverpool was a marker, the sight of Liverpool kicking it in the corners and wasting time, and bringing Lucas on for a striker, which you don't see them do often, was a backhanded mark of respect.

"If we keep delivering performances and get on top of the fine details, we're not a million miles away."

    Sunderland

Sunderland manager David Moyes on Jermain Defoe's England call-up:  "I think it's a boost to Jermain and hopefully it gives the whole club a lift because we need his goals and we need more goals.

"It's less and less likely that older players get call-ups when they've been out of the team for a while. You get players like Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney who play right through to their mid-thirties, but when you've been out of the squad, it shows your professionalism in never giving up on it."
