Shola Ameobi scored some critical goals for Newcastle during his career.

The level may have dropped but the big veteran striker has another vital one for a side in black and white, sidefooting Notts County ahead against fellow League Two strugglers Hartlepool.

Portsmouth have doubled their lead away against Colchester, Kyle Bennett with the second Pompey goal.

And there's a lifeline for bottom-of-the-table Newport, who are now back to 1-1 against Crewe. They need wins though.

    Aston Villa 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday

Vincent Sasso makes his way to the dressing rooms for an early bath/shower.

He hacked down Conor Hourihane and Wednesday, already chasing the game, are down to 10.

Carlos Carvahal has also been sent to the stands for his frustrations. Villa's day so far.

This picture sums up the first-half at the DW Stadium. Look at the faces of determination, grit and intensity.

More graft than craft. Still, it's been quite open and certainly not a cagey affair.

Lee Tomlin goes close with a curler towards goal, from Tammy Abraham's knock-down. Five goals for the ex-Boro man this season.

This is the offering for the media at Chesterfield this afternoon. This is my idea of heaven.

Anyway, nearly ready for the second half... no pies here. I'm a professional.

    League Two half-time round-up

Goals are hard to come by in League Two, but there's been a big one in the promotion battle at Luton, where Stevenage have the edge thanks to a third-minute header from Luke Wilkinson.

Leaders Doncaster continue their record of scoring in every home league match. They lead Cheltenham through Andy Butler's strike.

Portsmouth are 1-0 up at Colchester, while Accrington, Grimsby and Yeovil are all also 1-0 ahead  away from home.

    • Preston and Tom Barkhuizen (pictured) above have given their slim hopes of promotion a boost with their 2-0 first-half lead against fellow play-off challengers Reading. Barkhuizen and Daryl Horgan have their goals.
    • Big goal from Rajiv van La Parra to put play-off chasing Huddersfield in front against an in-form Brentford.
    • Jonathan Kodjia's 14th of the campaign has Villa in front against Sheffield Wednesday, he headed in a Conor Hourihane cross for the opener.
    • Wolves lead bottom club Rotherham thanks to Andreas Weimann's goal at the end of the half.
    • Cauley Woodrow's free-kick is the difference in an east midlands derby between Burton, who lead, and Nottingham Forest.
    • There were no first-half goals in the Leeds-QPR, Cardiff-Birmingham and Barnsley-Ipswich games. All are goalless.
  11. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:55 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2017

    Newcastle 0-1 Fulham

Not the result Newcastle's fans will have been expecting on the first anniversary of Rafael Benitez's appointment at St James' Park.

Tom Cairney's blockbuster put them in front and it's been a fairly comfortable first period for Slavisa Jokanovic's side.

The Magpies restored Dwight Gayle to their side this afternoon but the forward, who had been out with a hamstring injury, hasn't had too many opportunities to impress. He'll only need one though you feel, to make an impact.

  12. Le Fondre helps put Bolton in chargepublished at 15:55 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2017

    League One half-time round-up

The big promotion tussle looked to be going swimmingly for Bolton at Fleetwood but Kyle Dempsey's strike has pulled it back to 2-1 after goals from Adam Le Fondre and David Wheater.

Second-from-bottom Chesterfield have hit back to level at home against Shrewsbury, while Bristol Rovers are 2-0 up against Southend and fellow play-off chasers Walsall and Oxford are also ahead.

  13. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:53 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2017

    Norwich 1-0 Blackburn Rovers

Norwich lead thanks to Cameron Jerome's tap-in, on the back of fine work by Josh Murphy but Mitchell Dijks has swung the pendulum back toward Blackburn.

Blackburn's chances have fallen to Liam Feeney, Danny Graham and Marvin Emnes, but Norwich have been largely untroubled. Norwich can't afford to gift them too much though space though, law of averages as they say...

  14. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:51 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2017

    Wigan Athletic 0-0 Bristol City

It's been a decent first-half at the DW despite the lack of goals, and both teams have had chances to lift the positivity in the dressing rooms at half-time.

Matt Gilks pulled off a fine save to deny Tammy Abraham toward the end of the half, while Omar Bogle has been foiled at the other end by Frank Fielding.

Would a point help either? Probably not. Victory would be a double whammy for whoever clinched it.

    Wolves 1-0 Rotherham

Goal number 82 conceded by Rotherham this season, credit to Wolves winger Ben Marshall who slides a lovely ball in behind for Austria forward Andreas Weimann to latch onto and round Lewis Price to score.

Wolves need the points themselves and that might settle some frustrations around Molineux.

This is the crucial moment that has put Stevenage 1-0 ahead against Luton, Luke Wilkinson with the third-minute header.

    Norwich City 1-0 Blackburn Rovers

Cameron Jerome is in the right place, right time to put Alan Irvine's Norwich side in front at home against Blackburn Rovers.

Rovers have had opportunities against a 10-man Canaries side, Danny Graham and Marvin Emnes both unable to truly test Michael McGovern.
