    League One preview

It seems  Sheffield United's  six-year stay in League One is at an end. The Blades are top of the table, 13 points clear of third place with six games remaining.

They are not in action on Saturday, so second-place  Bolton  can put pressure on them in the title hunt when they host  Chesterfield.  A win for the Trotters would close the gap to four points.

    Championship preview

Rotherham  can be relegated to League One today if the Millers fail to beat  Fulham,  or if other results go against them.

Leaders  Newcastle  will look to strengthen their place at the top of the Championship when they host second-bottom  Wigan,  while second-place  Brighton  are at home to  Blackburn,  who are also in the relegation zone.

In the early kick off, play-off chasing Sheffield Wednesday drew 1-1 with Barnsley but perhaps the biggest game inside the top six involves Reading and Leeds. The two sides are fifth and fourth respectively and meet each other at 17:30 BST.

    Watford v Sunderland (15:00 BST)

Sunderland will desperately be hoping Jermain Defoe's almost inevitable goal  on his England return  can kick-start a glut of them at club level, after what constitutes a mini barren patch by his high-scoring standards.

But others need to step up too in order to get the ball to him more often, as Defoe's been provided with hardly any opportunities during his - and the team's - four-match run without a goal.

Despite a seven-point cushion above the drop zone, there's some worry around Watford after just two league wins since mid-December has caused them to slip from seventh to 14th.

Walter Mazzarri insists he's 'not too concerned' about their position in the table - lose this one and that view might have to change.

Hull City have never suffered relegation directly after promotion to the Premier League. If they're to avoid that outcome in May it's clear their escape route centres on continued home success.

Since becoming head coach, Marco Silva has taken 10 points from a possible 12 at the KCOM Stadium. However, Hull have lost 12 of their last 13 on the road.

Fellow strugglers Middlesbrough are in town on Wednesday, but first the visit of a badly out-of-form West Ham side who have lost three games in a row and haven't won since 4 February.

Treading water in mid-table, the Hammers are hampered by an ever-lengthening injury list and are leaking far too many goals... opportunity knocks for Marco's men.

With Craig Shakespeare bidding to become the first British manager to win his first four Premier League games, Leicester suddenly look to be only a couple of victories away from safety.

How they would love to have those points chalked up before tackling Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

Stoke are having another very creditable season; ninth place again at the moment - the position in which they have finished each of the last three seasons.

Mark Hughes would have particularly enjoyed their point  at Manchester City  in their last away game, but would probably concede that they have, at times, been too accommodating on their travels - registering wins at only Hull, Watford and Sunderland.

Spurs have never had as many points at this stage of a Premier League season but they know they have to keep on winning.

It was an important psychological step for them to get over the line last time out against Southampton without Harry Kane. Dele Alli, who has 11 goals in his last 12 league games, looks ready to assume more responsibility.

A glance at Burnley's hugely impressive home record will remind Spurs of the task ahead at Turf Moor. Sean Dyche's team will be delighted to be back in Lancashire, having played their last four games on the road, and Tottenham are only too aware that they are a different proposition at home.

Conor is quoting a bit of TS Eliot today...

'April', wrote TS Eliot, 'is the cruellest month'. Jose Mourinho knows exactly what he meant.

Mourinho starts April beset by injuries and suspensions. His debut campaign at Manchester United may well be defined by the nine games they play this month.

West Brom  beat Arsenal  last time out and often raise their game against high-profile opponents. They have defeated Manchester United in each of the last three seasons.

United start this weekend in fifth position, four points behind Liverpool, but with two games in hand.

The fourth month of the year could well determine whether Mourinho gets among the top four places this season.

Eden Hazard has recovered from the calf injury that kept him out of Chelsea's last game against Stoke, and meant he missed out on playing for Belgium during the international break.

Watford captain Troy Deeney (illness) and defender Sebastian Prödl (calf) are both only fit enough to make the bench, while Valon Behrami and Daryl Janmaat are also out of the team that lost at Crystal Palace last time out.

Last three games Crystal Palace have won and kept clean sheets. It will be very tough at Chelsea today. They are really going to have to rely on Zaha and Townsend to make in-roads into Chelsea’s defence. It will be a real uphill battle.
