Move over Romelu Lukaku - Phil Jagielka is suddenly the man in goalscoring form. The Everton captain, after going nearly two years without a league goal, now has three in three games, heading in from a corner despite Tom Heaton's attempts to keep the ball out.

Burnley deal with the corner, but Everton keep up the pressure. Enner Valencia, by the right corner of the penalty area, drives a shot towards the near post. Birthday boy Tom Heaton beats it out.

Everton are attacking the Gwladys Street End in the second half, just as they like it, and immediately win a free-kick that Leighton Baines swings in from the right. Ashley Williams flicks on, and Ben Mee diverts behind for the half's first corner.

Enner Valencia is on for Idrissa Gueye at the start of the second half; a striker on for a midfielder. I think that tells us a little about Ronald Koeman's intentions here.

Everton fans have shown their support for Ross Barkley this afternoon.

This is the only game in the Premier League without a goal so far. As it stands, I think we're heading for last on Match of the Day with this one.

    Everton 0-0 Burnley

Ross Barkley has certainly been involved in that first half. In addition to his vital goalline clearance from Michael Keane, the Everton midfielder has had more touches than anyone else on the pitch (55) and attempted more passes in the opposing half than anyone else (29, with a 93.1% accuracy rate).

I can understand Guy Mowbray's dilemma. On the one hand, there have been 21 efforts at goal - 13 from Everton, eight from Burnley. On the other, there have been 17 fouls - 14 of them in the first half-hour. Burnley have committed nine, Everton eight. It's certainly a competitive game. But a classic? Not so far.

    Guy Mowbray
    Match of the Day commentator

"No goals - but on another day, we might have seen a few. Tom Heaton's been busy, while Michael Keane had a goal-bound header cleared off the line by Ross Barkley. Plenty else has happened too, but I still can't decide whether it's a good game or not."

An escape for Burnley. Mirallas floats towards goal, and it flicks off George Boyd and drops just wide, with Tom Heaton wrongfooted and helpless.

Burnley half-clear Mirallas' corner amid a bit of a scramble, before the ball drops for Ross Barkley 20 yards out. He gets too much on the volley, which loops well over.

Burnley midfielder George Boyd concedes a free-kick 25 yards out. Kevin Mirallas fancies a shot here...

A key few minutes for Burnley. They've certainly done enough to get to half-time at 0-0; they just need to see it through.

Leighton Baines cushions the ball down for Idrissa Gueye, who remains on one Everton goal as he slices well off target.

    Everton 0-0 Burnley

Everton get a couple of corners in quick succession, and Burnley's defence is being tested now. Tom Heaton yells "keeper!" at the top of his voice to pluck Leighton Baines' delivery out of the air. A dog walker in Stanley Park could probably have heard that shout.

Mason Holgate, attacking for Everton at the other end, lets go from the edge of the penalty area. Tom Heaton gets down low to his right to palm the shot away. Alert goalkeeping, as the ball went through a Burnley defender's legs and maybe took a slight deflection.

Then Leighton Baines clips over a cross from the left, and Romelu Lukaku loops a header over.

Another decent chance for Burnley, from another poor Phil Jagielka backpass. The captain, out in the right-back position, gifts the ball to Sam Vokes, who has Ashley Barnes in the centre, but dribbles a tame shot straight at a relieved Joel Robles.

Decent chance for Burnley. Joey Barton plays a ball through to Sam Vokes, who has the pace to cause Phil Jagielka problems. The Everton captain forces Vokes a little wider to the left, and Joel Robles advances to block the shot.
