  1. 'We will never forget'published at 14:59 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Everton v Burnley (15:00 BST)

A statement from Everton before today's game: "The players, management, staff and supporters of Everton have a simple message for those who lost loved ones on 15 April 1989 - we remember and we will never forget."

  2. A tribute to the Hillsborough victimspublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Everton v Burnley (15:00 BST)

Today marks the 28th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, in which 96 Liverpool fans died.

Everton have done as much as, if not more than, any club to provide support for their neighbours in the intervening years. Before today's game, both they and Burnley pay tribute with a minute's applause.

There are times Romelu Lukaku plays like a pussycat when you know there is a tiger underneath the surface.

It's a shame he doesn't seem to want to stay at Everton because Ronald Koeman is building something really special. He's a beast of a player when he is on it. He ruins defenders with his power and strength.

  4. Lukaku for Atletico Madrid?published at 14:55 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

I watch Romelu Lukaku and I wonder which sides he could actually play for. Manchester City? I doubt it. I could probably see him more at Chelsea.

If you're looking around Europe then you are looking at Atletico Madrid or someone like that because they have been able to replace strikers over the last five or six years.

They've replaced Sergio Augero, they've replaced Radamel Falcao, they've replaced Diego Costa. It looks as though Antoine Griezmann will be leaving Atletico - if not this summer then over the next couple of summers.

You look at someone like that where Lukaku could go and be a total success.

  5. What next for Lukaku?published at 14:55 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Everton v Burnley (15:00 BST)

Interesting times for Lukaku, who has made clear to Ronald Koeman that he has no plans to sign a contract that would commit him to staying at Everton beyond the end of his current deal in 2019.

Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has suggested in recent days that Lukaku is capable of proving himself back at former club Chelsea - and that he already knows the Belgium international's future plans.

Asked if he knew what Lukaku would do, Everton manager Ronald Koeman said on Thursday: "No. Maybe I wait for the call from Drogba to tell me where he wants to go."

Two nominees for the end-of-season PFA awards on show today. Romelu Lukaku, nominated in both the player and young player of the year categories, leads Everton's attack. He'll be up against Burnley centre-back Michael Keane, one of the other six contenders for the young player prize. Looking forward to that contest.

Lukaku has scored in each of Everton's last eight home games; he is the first player to do that since Fred Pickering in 1964-65.

  7. Focusing on the footballpublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Everton v Burnley (15:00 BST)

Feels good to be able to focus on football for a few hours, if I'm honest.

Victory for Everton would move them a step closer to securing a place in next season's Europa League, while a win for Burnley would just about ensure another year in the top flight for them. World events notwithstanding, that is.

  8. Vokes in, Gray outpublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Everton v Burnley (15:00 BST)

Sean Dyche makes one change to the line-up that drew 0-0 at Middlesbrough last weekend, as Sam Vokes replaces top scorer Andre Gray in attack. Michael Keane, a player Everton want to sign, lines up in central defence; boyhood Everton fan Joey Barton starts in midfield.

Burnley XI: Heaton; Lowton, Keane, Mee, Ward; Boyd, Barton, Hendrick, Brady; Barnes, Vokes.

Substitutes: Pope, Flanagan, Tarkowski, Westwood, Defour, Agyei, Gray.

  9. Barkley starts, Williams returnspublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Everton v Burnley (15:00 BST)

Barkley starts today, retaining his attacking role. Ashley Williams returns from suspension and replaces Matthew Pennington at the centre of defence. That's the only change to the team who beat Leicester 4-2 last Sunday.

Everton XI: Robles; Holgate, Williams, Jagielka, Baines; Davies, Schneiderlin Gueye; Barkley, Lukaku, Mirallas.

Substitutes: Stekelenburg, Kenny, Pennington, Barry, Lookman, Calvert-Lewin, Valencia.

It has been a difficult week for Barkley, who was punched in a Liverpool bar last Sunday in what his lawyer described as an "unprovoked attack".

I suspect he will be glad to get back to making headlines for football reasons.

  11. 'Appalling and indefensible'published at 14:35 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

Here's the Everton statement on the ban: "Yesterday, Everton Football Club informed the Sun newspaper it was banned from Goodison Park, the Finch Farm training ground and all areas of the club's operation.

"While we will not dignify any journalist with a response to appalling and indefensible allegations, the newspaper has to know that any attack on this city, either against a much respected community or individual, is not acceptable."

News UK, the Sun's owner, said in its statement: "The Sun apologises for the offence caused.

"The paper was unaware of Ross Barkley's heritage and there was never any slur intended. Mr MacKenzie is currently on holiday and the matter will be fully investigated on his return."
