A point is not what either team wanted. Both teams played for the win this afternoon because both teams needed the win.

To be honest, neither team did enough for the three points and Sunderland, in particular, will be frustrated at having squandered some chances. A draw is the right result.

    That's it.

What an effort from Sunderland, but it's not quite enough for the three points.

  3. 'Fabio Borini was there!'published at 16:56 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

The was a pretty aimless ball forward from Darren Gibson, who pumped it right up and into the West Ham penalty area. The keeper came and spilled it, Jermain Defoe caught the loose ball and Fabio Borini was there to slot it home!

    You can't fault Sunderland's effort.

They're throwing everything at this. But it looks to be too little, too late.

  5. RED CARDpublished at 90+5 mins

    Sunderland 2-2 West Ham

Crazy stuff. Ten minutes added time and Sam Byram has just been sent off!

He got a silly booking earlier, and now brings down Adnan Januzaj for a second.

    Game on.

    Sunderland 2-2 West Ham

Well, Fabio Borini has levelled for the hosts!

What a substitution that proves to be. It falls to the forward on the edge of the box and he rifles in past Darren Randolph.

The medical staff are taking their time with Billy Jones.

He leaves the field on a stretcher, with a standing ovation from the Sunderland fans.

  10. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 82 mins

    Sunderland 1-2 West Ham

    Billy Jones is down.

He was running with the ball, went down under pressure and appeared to bang his head.

The medical staff are on and the defender is helped on to a stretcher.

Jones is going to be replaced by Fabio Borini, it appears.

Crystal Palace are the biggest winners in the survival race as it stands. The three most important words in football.

The Eagles are the only side in the bottom seven earning a point. And they want more against Leicester...

Think about David Moyes here. There are a lot of things a manager can be blamed for, but when your players on the pitch show commitment and it's just their quality that lets you down, well there's not a lot the boss can do about that.

  13. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 76 mins

    Sunderland 1-2 West Ham

Cheikhou Kouyate has gone down. It looked like a late tackle from Javier Manquillo, but no free-kick

Meanwhile, David Moyes is replacing Lee Cattermole with Adnan Januzaj.

The Black Cats are going to throwing everything at this one.

    Deary me.

Wahbi Khazri latches on to a Jermain Defoe pass and cuts inside James Collins beautifully before teeing up Didier Ndong.

The midfielder runs onto it at speed and has time and space in the box, but he smashes well over the crossbar.

  15. YELLOW CARDpublished at 70 mins

    Sunderland 1-2 West Ham

    Well.

Sam Byram grabs a handful of Victor Anichebe's shirt and yanks the forward to the ground.

Needless. And it gives the hosts a free-kick in a dangerous area.

Wahbi Khazri goes for goal himself, but it drifts over and onto the top of the net.

  16. Postpublished at 68 mins

    Sunderland 1-2 West Ham

    That's unlucky from Billy Jones.

He dispossesses Arthur Masuaku and Sunderland look to have men over on the break, but the defender can't quite keep it in play.

    Sunderland 1-2 West Ham

Wahbi Khazri has had a good game for Sunderland today, but he nips away at the legs of Arthur Masuaku and gives away a free-kick in the West Ham half.

If Sunderland are going to miraculously avoid the drop, the winger could be key.

This is the first time he's started for the Black Cats since October.

  18. Postpublished at 63 mins

    Sunderland 1-2 West Ham

Sunderland started this one with ferocious intent and managed to keep that up until the Hammers' second goal went in, but they're beginning to look a little leggy.

David Moyes need something from his side, a injection of energy, perhaps?

They have Adnan Januzjaj and Fabio Borini on the bench...

  19. Postpublished at 60 mins

    Sunderland 1-2 West Ham

Slaven Bilic is down on the touchline bellowing to his players, arms flailing everywhere.

You wouldn't think the Hammers had the lead.

Cheikhou Kouyate is then brought down by Lee Cattermole, who's already been booked, but no card this time for the Sunderland man.
